Default The Divergent Series: Allegiant - March 18, 2016

Quote:
Lionsgate will produce and release Allegiant, starring Shailene Woodley and Theo James and based on the third book in Veronica Roth's best-selling Divergent trilogy, as two separate films, it was announced today by Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-Chairmen Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger.

The company will release a total of four Divergent films on its Summit Entertainment label with the next film, Insurgent, which begins production next month, slated for release on March 20, 2015, and Allegiant - Parts 1 and 2 scheduled for release on March 18, 2016, and March 24, 2017, respectively.

The first film in the Divergent franchise is off to a fast start, grossing $117 million at the domestic box office in its first three weeks of release, and it continues its international rollout this weekend with openings in France, Germany, Russia, Australia, Scandinavia, and other major territories. Book sales of the best-selling Divergent series continue to skyrocket with total sales nearing 20 million worldwide and sales of the three-book boxed set and three-book e-bundle increasing 55% last week. The three books ranked one-two-three on the USA Today best-seller list for 2013.

"Veronica Roth brings her captivating story to a masterful conclusion in Allegiant, a rich, action-packed book with material that is ideally suited to two strong and fulfilling movies," said Friedman and Wachsberger. "The storytelling arc and world of the characters lend themselves perfectly to two films, a storytelling strategy that has worked very well for us on the two Twilight Breaking Dawn films and about which we're tremendously enthusiastic for the two upcoming Mockingjay films of The Hunger Games franchise."

The company's The Hunger Games and The Twilight Saga franchises have collectively grossed more than $5 billion at the worldwide box office, and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is the 10th highest-grossing film of all time. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Parts 1 and 2 will be released on November 21, 2014, and November 20, 2015, respectively.

After the cataclysmic events in Insurgent, Tris and Four enter a dangerous new world in Allegiant - Parts 1 and 2 that they no longer recognize. As new truths are revealed about the past and future, Tris must face impossible choices about courage, allegiance, and love to protect the people closest to her.

Lol, no problem. I figured I might as well be the OP for the whole series.

I think they might be getting a bit carried away here. I know the first film did well but I wouldn't say it's enough to warrant another three movies nor guarantee their success.

This is getting way to out of hand I understood why they did it for Harry Potter, and I think that it really benefited that series. I do not however think that this warrants 2 parts.

Harry Potter and Twilight were both better off because the last book was split in two parts. This one will probably turn out the same way.

Are you kidding? This has two prior books/movies to wrap up. Potter had 6 prior books/movies to wrap up. That needed the extra movie. This is a cash grab. So was Twilight.

Yep, IMO Harry Potter is the only one that actually needed it.

Content wise though Harry Potter needed two movies, Alligent really doesn't need 2 whole movies to do this.

Not only that, but Harry Potter's book size alone warrants a split. Breaking Dawn, Mockingjay and Allegiant don't need two parts. They can fill everything in 2 1/2- 2 3/4 hours.

HP & TDH Part 1 was mostly the trio going camping, while everything was rushed in Part 2. If the split was indeed needed, it was badly executed.

Twilight didn't need it.
The Hobbit didn't need it.
Allegiant doesn't need it.

Hunger Games might need it considering at lot of things happen in the book - but we don't see any of it happening because Katniss spend most of the book passed out.

The split was done perfectly. It was exactly how it was done in the book.

Worst movie series at the moment. Garbage. Insurgent will be one of the bigger disappointments/flops in 2015. Sucks for Shailene but she'll be ok.

For the curious, major spoilers from the book and other materials:

[Show spoiler]1) At the end of Insurgent, the woman in the video recording says that she is joining Chicago as "Edith Prior", which makes her a possible ancestor of Tris.

2) Tris's mother, Natalie, was also from the outside world. She joined Dauntless. Natalie, Andrew Prior, and Jeanine Matthews knew each other as they were growing up. Andrew was Erudite, like Jeanine.

3) Andrew saw Erudite conduct experiments on other people, so he decided to leave and join Abnegation instead. Natalie joined him in Abnegation.

4) Many of the sims/serums that the Factions used were actually developed by the outside world. This means that the scientists from the outside world were responsible for Erudite's coup against Abnegation.

5) There's a scientist in the outside world who was in love with Tris's mother. He was upset that Natalie married Andrew, which is why he didn't try to protect her during the Erudite coup.

6) Marcus Eaton and Johanna (Amity) face off against Evelyn and the Factionless for control of Chicago.

7) The conclusion involves wiping many people's memories, so that everyone can have a "fresh start". Peter has the chance to inoculate himself, but he chooses to have his memories wiped.

8) Marcus and other characters are imperfect Divergents, which explains why they are still susceptible to some of the sims/serums.

9) Caleb continues to be an untrustworthy person. Although he feels guilt about his actions, Tris and Four never forgive him.

Here's the BIG spoiler:

[Show spoiler]10) Tris dies.
