Default Question/ Comparison

I am thinking about getting the PS3 at walmart when they have the fathers day sale, i have a BDP-s300 right now and it is the v1.0 i know that the PS3 is 2.0, what i am wanting to know is if it will be at least as good of a player as my current one, I want a player with 2.0 and i do a little bit of gaming. So i just need to know what the opinion of the PQ is. I have a Hitachi 42" 1080I Plasma and the reciever i have is the Yamaha v463. Any opions will be appreciated.

I have the 300 as well and was thinking and wondering the same thing as you. I'm sure the PS3 is just as good or better than the 300 in all regards, otherwise Sony wouldn't have put all their eggs in that consoles basket. Upconverting standard DVD's might be the only point of debate.

You will be more than happy with the PS3. It plays great no load times. It plays all discs. For the money there is none better. It also upconverts pretty well from what I hear. I don't know how good I have a Onkyo 875 and use the REON chip for my upconverting am too lazy to turn it off and check the PS3 and I don't watch dvd's much anyway. The Pq is very good.
Anyway, SACD, Media streamer. For 399 and a 100 dollar gift card you can't go wrong.

I would definitely swap out the s300 for a PS3...

and Im not 100% sure but I do believe the Yamaha RX-V463 is 7.1PCM capable (haven't been able to verify myself?), so with the PS3 decoding EVERYTHING, you will get all the HD audio.

No it is 5.1 not 7.1. So the P3 will at least be a lateral move if not better than the bdp-s300? Good i was hoping so, it seems like a good deal, speacially with the $100 gift card and i will have 2.0 then.

For the record it has very good DVD upconverting. I just wish it could upconvert DVD sound

I was watching LotR last night, extended edition in DTS of course. It's really sad how that once great-sounding soundtrack sounds completely dull after listening to uncompressed audio on Blu-rays.

Back on topic though... the only knocks on the PS3 really now that we've had all these updates is noise (which the newer ones are better at than my older one), bluetooth instead of IR for universal remotes, and lack of analog outs. It sounds like the last is not an issue for you, and the second most people can live with, and they've made the new ones a lot quieter.
