An Athena sub (I'm on a budget) that I ordered last week arrived in the mail today. When taking it out of the box, I noticed it was packaged upside down, so when I flipped it over to stand it on its feet, something inside clearly rattled, and moved around.
Is this normal, or is there potentially something loose/wrong? |

There def shouldn't be anything rattling around in there.... Is it possible that you heard the cord hit the back of the speaker as you flipped it over? If there is indeed something inside, then I would try to get it out of the port and send it back pronto.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I just got back home, and I'll try to see if I can get whatever is moving around inside to roll out of one of the openings.
At first I thought it was the cord, since they packaged the subwoofer with the cord shoved down one of the tubes, but I've ruled that out. Maybe something else fell in at some point. Sounds like a small piece of wood, but obviously I'm not sure what it is. |

Ok, I found out what it is.
After removing the screws and taking the woofer off, I saw that the tube for one of the ports had come off of its connecting part. The port that runs vertically attachs to something inside the top of the sub, and then has the opening on the bottom, near the woofer. There is a second port that opens in the back of the sub, and the tube inside just runs horizontally. From what I see, the other end of it connects to nothing, and perhaps because of hanging there, only connected on one end, it became detached during shipping. So my question is, should I just re-glue this thing into it's socket inside, or is this more of a problem (should the other end have been connected to something inside, or is it just there for the air to flow through?). I'm new to the whole HT thing, and know very little, but if this is just a simple matter of gluing the pipe back into place, in the interest of time, I'd rather just do that (even though I'm certainly entitled to sending it back for another). |

Sounds like the glue just let go.
If you can see how it goes you could simply reglue. I would suggest a silicone sealer type, less chance of drying out again and it wont need to soak in like a wood glue to work properly. |

Luckily I have long enough fingers to be able to reach into the port and feel if it is still in place, that way I don't have to unplug the sub and turn it side to side to listen for rattling. If it comes apart again, I guess it'll be going back for a new one. |
