Default Samsung BD-P1000 Audio Problem - (problem fixed)

I recently purchased a Samsung BD-P1000 player and am loving it. Unfortunately, my 8 year old audio system didn't appear very happy with the player. It wasn't able to detect and play Dolby Digital or DTS via Toslink or coax.

The player has 5.1 outputs (via 6 RCA connectors) and this might provide better sound than my old decoder anyway, so I connected it. I'm encountering an odd problem.

When I go through the speaker test in the BD-P1000 setup menu everything works well, audio is produced by each speaker when it should be. When I'm playing a disc, however, I only hear audio from the front speakers. I know everything is connected properly or the speaker test wouldn't be able to produce audio from each speaker.

I've tried three or four Blu-Ray discs and different audio tracks (uncompressed, ENG 5.1, etc.), no difference.

Has anyone else encountered this problem?

I'm using the latest firmware, dated Feb 16th 2007.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Bob
