After being crushingly disappointed with all the hype given to the undeserving CABIN IN THE WOODS, INSIDIOUS and THE CONJURING, finally along came OCULUS, a "next big thing in horror" that actually lived up to the hype. I'll be getting it day one.

I actually really enjoyed this movie, all the scenes with the
[Show spoiler]father chewing his nails and messing around with the mirror
was pretty intense.

I loved this movie so much! I wonder if it will have the original short film as a bonus feature? I hope so, but I doubt it. Hopefully it'll have some nice special features.

I loved it until the end. Ending pissed me off so much. But great horror movie.

Why?! That ending had BALLS, and no genre needs to be ballsy more than horror.

What a boring movie and a weak R rating for a horror film.

I completely disagree on that one. I was highly impressed with CITW. I found it to be very entertaining and about as original as new horror can be these days.

Right there with you on that one, Cabin was so fun and so entertaining. I loved that film to death.

Not sure how original it is to reference every other horror movie just as CITW did.

I'm gonna rent this Oculus film.

Agreed!

That wasn't the 'original' part.
[Show spoiler]The deconstruction of the genre and fans and actually revolving the moving around it, you don't exactly see that every day.
Scream did a bit of pulling back the curtain, with discussing the cliches and such. But Cabin in the Woods went above and beyond that.

Anyhow, I really wanted to see Oculus in the theater but missed out and may end up kicking myself later when I finally see it. I'll probably play it safe and rent first, just in case.

I'm used to it. Though it was a box office disappointment, especially in light of all its pre-release hype, it resonated quite strongly with the types of fans who frequent these boards, so I know my opinion is an unwelcome one here. However, much like THE SIXTH SENSE before it, I stand by my assertion that CABIN IN THE WOODS is a smoke-and-mirrors, "who's that man behind the Wizard of Oz's curtain?" parlor trick that thinks it's a whole lot smarter and subversive than it really is. I'm just glad that general audiences didn't fall for the second rate magic trick of the latter in as many numbers as they did for the former.

OCULUS, however, delivers on its promise, and does so in spades. For me, it's been the best horror film since THE MIST, and the best of its type since THE RING.

Made a very rare appearence at the theater to see this and liked it a lot.
I look forward to checking it out again on BD.

The Cabin in the Woods is awesome.

Oculus was very good. I like surreal psychological horror so I enjoyed it.

So am I, and others on this board that agree with me, just simple people that do not understand the complexities of modern films? I am a little offended by your statement.

So you're telling me that a complete faceless stranger--for all you know, a 400-hundred pound, hair-covered, unshowered, middle-aged oaf with open sores and halitosis who's never known the touch of a woman, living in his mother's basement, masturbating to Titanfall commercials--has the power to affect how you feel about yourself? Yowza. I don't presume to judge your, or any other Blu-ray.com member's, intelligence based on an appreciation for CABIN IN THE WOODS. I only mean to say, in my opinion, you guys got snowed into believing its a damn sight more clever than I believe it is. I hope that opinion doesn't eat you up too much inside.

Now I am really offended because that just described me!

In all seriousness, you didn't change anything about how I "feel" about myself. I know that everybody likes different things and also have their own opinions. I just think that the way you worded it made it sound like we are all coolaid drinking simpletons. No real offending has occurred.
