Was thinking of a poll but there are too many variables.
Growing up we had a 13" Panasonic b&w tube-based TV which did suffer from the occasional blown tube. Was repaired 2 or 3 times before it was finally ditched 15 to 20 years later. I also had a 13" KTV brand which only lasted a few years before I let my father have it fixed and sold it off to get rid of it. It was not good. It was replaced with my 13" color Panasonic. It is about 20 years old and still runs without a single repair or display issue. It has just been out of service since getting a replacement in 10/07. My parents still have the wooden console TV from about 1973. It was last repaired (or attempted) about 2003 but died again. Simply not worth fixing any more. It is now the stand for the 46" Samsung LCD I bought for my parents 50th wedding anniversary. We had our share of TV's. The good ones seem to run 10 to 15 years before needing at least one repair. Around the 20+ year mark it is just becomes time to move one. Yet I do not expect any of my LCD TV's to last 20 years. Even though they don't get 8 hours use a day and are plugged into excellent line conditioners with spike and surge protection. Have we as consumers been bilked into accepting LESS LIFE from NEW HDTV's? Hmmm. ![]() |

It's on year #8 or so (gave to a friend) it's a 36" sony Wega.
works like a charm.... hence my loyalty to Sony televisions (I still have a Sony Wega, 32", but my LCD is an Aquos, which was free.... so I can't complain) |

I just got rid of a 36 inch tube Sony (wasn't being used and took up too much room) and it has been running with no issues for the past 9 years. I really hope to get the same kind of milage out of my LCD's but time will tell. Our last remaining tube TV is a 13" we have in the bedroom and that has been running for about 15 years now.

last CRT i bought was a 27" in 2001, gave it to my baby brother last year and it's still going strong.
when growing up the family had a 21", that thing lasted at least 15 years. i love my SXRD, but i don't expect 15 years out of it. maybe 10 years and 3 bulb replacements. |

I've only ever had one tube TV actually go out on me and even it would come on again intermittantly. (13" Emerson that was probably 20 years old.) My other tube TVs I've either given away or have where the kids can watch them. They all lasted over 10 years.
I'm already on my second Sony rear projection (thank you Circuit City extended warranty plan ![]() |

I still have my 27" Sony Trinitron I bought in 1995, Case is cracking due to sun damage but the picture is still great. I think it will fall out of the case onto the floor before the tube goes out! My 55" LCD...Already been through one $200 lamp and the TV is only 3yrs old.

I still use my Loewe Planus on 1080i and it looks as good or better than most flat panels I've seen running 1080p. ...and believe me, I've got the cash to get a flat panel once I see one better. I don't want huge and mediocre... I want smaller and incredible looking. I could go SIM2 DLP but don't really have the room. I do know that 3'rd quarter this year will see some dramatic changes in LCD technolgy - for retail.

I bought a 13" TV about 14 years ago... it works great.
About 7 years ago I bought a 27", it still works great. About 4 years ago I bought a 32" Sony, it still works great, although there is a color issue in the right top corner when it sort of tipped over in the back of a van while moving.... Bought a Sony 55" SXRD 1080p about a month ago, havent turned the others on since.... |
