Default Looking for advice on a gaming TV

I've been saving for a few months now and am up to about 4K. I am looking for a TV for gaming, HD sports, and movies. When I originally started saving it was for a Pioneer PDP 5010FD - 50" KURO plasma TV. Right now I am getting ready to purchase and before I drop that large of a chunk of change I decided to come ask others about the pros and cons.

Is this a good all around TV for my needs? Will it handle gaming well? I figure its a lock for sports and movies but the gaming issue is the one I have no experience with it on.

Any thoughts and opinions are appreciated.

We decided to go with Sony's XBR6+ LCDs because we will use them for what you are using them for, and also to plug in to our Mac computers. I don't care what people say about plasmas not burning in. At best, they will still have memory retention - where LCDs don't, I would be over-using screen savers if we used plasma TVs for computer display monitors, and it's not something i want to deal with. I also really like having no reflections on the Sony - I find the black levels and picture dynamics to be very good for Blu Ray movies. If I wasn't to use them as computer monitors, then I would also be happy with the new Panasonic PZ800 based on performance and price. Bring on the XBR8 55''!

Would also agree on that being a good choice.

I had about 3K at my disposal for my HDTV and went with a $2K Samsung. I'm pretty happy with it. I have an XBOX360 and a PS3 and both look awesome on the 50'' plasma I have. Also, Samsung has excellent anti-burn in technology. My nset has had no burn in issues whatsoever and it is my main set.

that...

or go with a good TV.

4 grand can buy you a really nice TV, but for gaming I would go with an LCD with 120hz over a plasma, although burn in seems to no longer be an issue, wouldnt you just LOVE to be the first person on the forums to prove that wrong?

i personally would go with the new Samsung ToC LN52A650 LCD, it's 120Hz, 52", 1080P, and has a very sleek bezel design

I think the only TV's in the same league as the Pioneer KURO's are the new Panasonic Plasmas.

Burn in is not an issue and definitely not anymore on a Pioneer or Panasonic.

If you did go LCD, then the Sony's would be nice. But the Plasmas will look so much better.

if your gaming close to the screen get a LCD 1080P...

so you wont notice the anoyying color dots on the screen like an old tube tv....(Not if your far away you wont notice the color panal dots, but i would since im about 3 steps from my 42'' lcd tv and everything is smooth as it should be,colors are rich too without looking unrealiastly colored and bright like)

Wait a little longer and check out the new Pioneer Kuro 5020FD. It is suppose to be even better with 5X darker black levels and $1000 cheaper than the 5010. I am waiting to see it then decide between the Pioneer 5020, the Panasonic TH-50PZ850U or the Sony XBR5.

Have you considered a projector??? You can turn an entire wall into a giant theatre screen.
