Default TV show season collecting

So, I wasn't really sure where to put this, but I'm curious. I started collecting seasons of my favorite TV shows, mainly just to have them, because I don't generally go back and re-watch a series. Is there anyone else out there who does this? Am I nuts?

I've been collecting them for years. My only "quirk" is keeping with the format that I originally started collecting that series with.

Example, I already had the first 4 or 5 seasons of Smallville on DVD when the "first" season became available on Blu-ray. I was not going to have have of that series on DVD and half on DVD, so I kept buying them on DVD to complete the set.

I have TONS of shows on DVD / Blu-ray lol. Mainly because I don't get many channels anymore, but that's only because there's not even anything on TV that I'd watch.

I don't mind switching formats halfway through a release though. For example, I've got season 1-12 of The Simpsons on DVD, but started getting them on Blu-ray when they released season 20 and then 13-16. Same thing with The Office, I've got seasons 1-4 on DVD and 5-9 on Blu-ray. And Futurama, I've got volumes 1-4 and the first two movies on DVD, then the next to movies and the rest of the series on Blu-ray. The way I see it, there's no reason to deny yourself the better format just because it isn't ALL available on it I DO wish they'd put the rest of The Office and those first two Futurama movies on Blu-ray.

But the majority of the shows I own are on DVD, just because that's the only format they're available in lol.

I have lots of shows on dvds, I try my best to be picky with the blu-rays, though

I buy my favorites like The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, American Horror Story

I also have Mad Men and Breaking Bad, but I'll get rid of them and buy the complete set later to save space

Also since most of the shows are released in a regular blu-ray cases now, I decided to wait for a possible complete box set to get those (Sherlock, Orphan Black, Bates Motel)

Well I buy series with the intent to rewatch them, but as I get older, I find that I don't have as much time as I used to. So, I never have the time to rewatch them. I wish I could rewatch my LOST, Battlestar Galactica and True Blood BDs, but I just have no time. Life sucks! No time for fun anymore.

The only television show that I own on Blu-ray, at present, is The Twilight Zone: The Complete Series.

I own all five seasons of Miami Vice on DVD, though, and I will upgrade those in a heartbeat if they are ever released on Blu-ray.

Up until recently, I wouldn't touch any TV shows on blu ray. Didn't have any interest. Only movies, no TV shows. I don't have HBO or any other movie channels so I just didn't think TV on blu ray was up my alley. However, I have become addicted to HBO shows on blu ray due to word of mouth on this site. Blind bought the likes of Band of Brothers, The Pacific, Generation Kill, Sopranos season 1, Boardwalk Empire season 1-3, & John Adams. Heck I even picked up Deadwood the other day on sale at Best Buy for $64.99, another blind buy. I have no idea if I will ever have the time to finish all of these series, but it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling having them for a rainy day. Really thinking of blind buying True Detective when it comes out in a couple weeks. Great topic by the way.

I had decided a while back not to buy TV on BR ever. Funny thing is here lately all I find myself wanting to watch is TV shows. My problem is none of the shows I want to watch/re-watch are on the services I have. Band of Brothers, The Pacific, Boardwalk Empire, etc. I'm dangerously close to giving in to the impulse of buying True Detective on the 10th. I know however if I do this it will be bad for my wallet as this is likely to start a chain reaction lol.

I don't have many TV shows on blu-ray. Currently I have:
Star Trek TOS
Complete Twilight Zone
Firefly
Band of Brothers

I have several shows on DVD - Battlestar Galactica, Lost, V, Magnum, PI, Stargate SG-1, SG Atlantis, Sanford and Son

I basically reserve my bluray buying for my absolute favorites, ones that I will watch every few years or so. I will get all Star Trek shows on Blu when they have complete sets, I don't want to buy them individually. I'd love to have Magnum, Pi and Stargate SG-1 on blu but who knows if it will ever be available. The majority of TV I am fine with DVD, it's just the special ones I want on blu.

Tv show collecting was one of the hardest mental hurdles for me to clear as I was buying sets I would never, ever watch again but I loved the show.

Once I cleared it, I only buy the few shows I rewatch over and over.

Band of Brothers
Game of Thrones
Sherlock 1-3
Strike Back Season 4 (not released yet)
Vikings 1-2

I'm a big TV show collector. The whole right side of my shelf is nothing but TV shows:

I do this, too. For whatever reason, the TV shows are my favorite kind of "genre" in my collection. Unfortunately, I haven't seen a lot of the shows that are in my collection (i.e. Game of Thrones, Lost, Boardwalk Empire, Supernatural, Shameless, etc.) and some of my favorite shows ever will more than likely never be released on blu, i.e. Psych, Monk and Burn Notice, most notably. Apparently, I'm at 171 in terms of TV Series BD count, so I guess that ain't bad.

And yes, I will continue to buy TV shows. So pumped that True Detective and Ray Donovan are being released next Tuesday. Will definitely be buying those on release day.

EDIT: I bought another display cabinet thing on a clearance from work (Target, 70% off) and my plan is to fill it with all TV shows, blu-ray and DVD. Hopefully I can set it up tomorrow and find a home for it when I get off work. I'll post pictures of it when I get it all hammered out.

I collect TV shows on DVD/BD of my fav shows as well. The reason I like to collect my fav TV shows is cause I don't have to ff through the commericals.

It appears I have 105 DVD TV season and 181 Blu-ray TV Seasons and none of them have the same season in both formats. I watch most of them in big chunks of 5-6 hour block and usually in the winter when it is snowy and cold outside for 6 months The convenience and continuity, of seeing the episodes without waiting a week or more, are the main reason for having them.

I'm currently burning my way through The Sopranos for about the 7th or 8th time now. I find it easier to watch them when settling down for bed at night to watch a couple episodes.

I have HBO Go but that hasn't stopped me from buying Boardwalk Empire, Generation Kill, and will get the Sopranos boxset as well.

I can't see the point of buying Blu-rays or DVDs I have no intention of watching.

I never re-watch anything longer than a mini-series. I soon gave up buying TV series when I realised I don't have the time to work my way through several seasons of a series, no matter how much I liked the show and that it's basically a waste of money.

STAR TREK is the first BLuray TV show I just bought.
If I buy a TV show, I will watch it at least once.
I would like to watch them more times though, but there are so much else to see..

I've never seen Star TRek, so it will be the first time.
But I would gladly watch for a 2nd time, shows I had seen in my childhood and teens, if they ever get released on Bluray!
(hope for Beauty and the Beast, Mission Impossible and Dynasty from the 80s)

I used to have a ton of TV on DVD but I thinned out my collection. I'm trying to only own what I really love now, for movies too.

I definitely re-watch them though, not sure why I would own them otherwise.

And I would definitely opt for bluray even if other seasons are DVD only. I don't have any OCD of that nature, I want the best quality.
