Topic.
I've seen several members post about being an extra in movies and / or television shows and I am curious how one in fact acquires this role. Any information, as well as personal discussions about working as an extra, are welcomed and are greatly appreciated. ![]() |

I worked as an extra back in February during a filming here in Atlanta. I found out about it through my local running community, because the casting company was looking for long distance runners, trail runners, and marathon runners. I cannot divulge specifics right now, but my 13-hour day was an awesome experience. I enjoyed working alongside three major actors for a couple of hours and observing what goes on with a major film production.
The casting company has a Facebook page where they routinely post extra casting calls. I occasionally drop by the site to see if I meet the requested descriptions for any future castings. My advice is to check out casting company websites in your area, and keep up with their casting calls. If you meet the description requirements, then contact them and send them the required info (recent photo, etc.). If you are chosen as an extra, then just be polite and do everything that the film crew tells you to do. Do not approach the major actors while you are on the set, because they are on the clock, and focusing on their jobs. That was the surreal element of my day, because I was occasionally standing right next to a couple of famous people, and I was simply ignoring them. Leave your camera phones at home, stay in the designated areas for the extras, and just have fun observing the production. Last edited by The Great Owl; 06-03-2014 at 01:27 PM. |
