Default The Machine (2013) - June 17, 2014

I thought I'd start a thread about the Blu-ray release of "THE MACHINE" (2013), staring Caity Lotz and Toby Stephens. Did anyone like the movie or is anyone getting the Blu-ray?

Release Date: June 17th from XLrator

I really liked what they were able to accomplish on a small budget of a million pounds. I'm going to revisit this to see if it gets a spot on the shelf.

Unlike far superior low budget science fiction films like Upstream Color, Monsters or Another Earth this had that cheap shot-in-an-unused-warehouse look of so many C-grade movies. I thought this was just a notch above SyFy fodder.

One of the best science fiction movies I've seen this past decade. The actress from Arrow does a credible job as a humanoid artificial intelligence. It's worth making a blind buy on. There is definitely a strong Blade Runner vibe to the film.

It was extremely limited released, but it was also on VOD.

Couldn't agree more. Bought it here in Australia as a blind buy after hearing great things and it was worth every cent. It's an excellent example of how to make a good film with a limited budget. A really interesting script, great performances and photography, and really neat SFX. And Cathy Lotz is not only beautiful to look at, but gives a wonderful performance in a dual role. And wow, has she got the moves... Sadly, we didn't get the 'making-of' on our BD in Oz (no surprise there), but I managed to find it on You Tube anyway.

Recommended for those who like an intelligent science fiction tale. I can really see this British production becoming a cult item and it'll be interesting to see what the director does next.

That is the best way to describe it, an intelligent exploration of artificial intelligence under the aegis of a tense action framework. People that hear this will think I am crazy, but I liked The Machine a lot more than Blade Runner.

Crazy? Never!!!!....

While I love Blade Runner (even though it took two viewings for it to click with me), I can't really judge. I haven't seen The Machine yet either, so that's another thing.

Don't get me wrong, I like Blade Runner. Harrison Ford is Harrison Ford and its conception of the future was groundbreaking at the time.

It's cool. I wasn't judging. I'm sure some people would be up in arms with some movies I like more than the classics.

As for The Machine, I have wanted to see it since the trailer popped up on Hulu a while back. The $12.96 price tag makes it tempting even if I need to cut back on the buying since I'm running out of shelf space.

I don't think you're crazy at all. I love Blade Runner, too, but I actually enjoyed this more.

I'm also picking this up from Amazon for $4.96 (some credit applied from a mistake they made), so that'll help me out a lot.

Not nearly as terrible as I expected. I'll pick it up eventually.

Give it a shot then! I would rent again if it wasn't going to arrive tomorrow.

I did, it was pretty good, not great by all means, but a nice watch!
the soundtrack alone makes it worth the watch, I'm downloading it right now

This really looks interesting. I'll have to wait till the price drops to blind buy, but it's on my list and I'll follow the thread.

Just blind bought this. I read an article about it awhile back and was interested in the story. I hope it's worth it.
