Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has announced the Blu-ray release of The Originals: The Complete First Season. A spin-off of The Vampire Diaries, the CW series stars Joseph Morgan, Daniel Gillies, Claire Holt, Charles Michael Davis, Leah Pipes, Phoebe Tonkin and Daniella Pineda, and arrives on Blu-ray/DVD/UltraViolet combo pack on September 2nd.

Synopsis: Klaus Mikaelson (Morgan), the original vampire-werewolf hybrid, has returned to New Orleans, the city from which he and his siblings, Elijah (Gillies) and Rebekah (Holt), were exiled a century ago. Drawn back by a mysterious tip that a plot is brewing against him, Klaus is surprised that the city still feels like home despite the decades he's been away. Curious as to why Klaus would return to the one place he swore he would never set foot again, Elijah follows his brother and learns that the beautiful and rebellious werewolf Hayley (Tonkin) has also come to the French Quarter searching for clues to her family history. As Klaus vows to reclaim what was once his, he realizes that his unborn child could be the key to the Originals' return to power.

Even the human population of the Quarter is unwittingly drawn into this supernatural battleground. A recent arrival to New Orleans, Cami (Pipes) is a whip-smart psychology grad student who appears happy to pursue her studies by day and work nights as a bartender, unaware that many of her customers are vampires. Hiding the dark secret that has brought her to New Orleans, Cami soon finds herself fascinated by both Klaus and his protégé Marcel (Davis), and totally unaware of the danger they pose for her and everyone around her.

They likely will. They have been doing it for every show that I know of that comes in a combo pack.

Since Warner distributes HBO shows and the latest season of True Blood is no longer a combo pack, I was hoping that was a sign for Warner's own shows. I have a lot of shows to watch, so I guess waiting isn't a huge deal.

Last year I spent around $40 for Arrow season 1 and few months later around Christmas it was $20 hopefully that's the case here also.

Saw Vampire Diaries Season 4 at Target the other day for $20 -- the Blu Ray disks only. Any chances another company other than Amazon will have an "only" BluRay set for less?

Yeah all stores will, WB seem to only offer combo-packs as an incentive for early buyers. After awhile they drop the DVD's and stores usually have them on sale for $20.

It has both.

While I am here, this is the BDInfo scan for the pilot. WB has decided 15 Mbps is acceptable for their television products. There are some curious choices made as to how many episodes they assign each disc. They do include a nice episode guide.

Any idea how long this usually takes? I'm tempted to buy it, but I don't want to if by Christmas a $20 Blu Ray only set will be out.

Most WB shows are $20 or cheaper on black Friday on blu-ray. Got the BD+DVD combo packs for Arrow and Vampire Diaries last year for under $20.

Bought this set last week. Great AV quality and some really Nice extras. This is definitely a must buy if you are a fan of TVD as well
