![]() Heaven Is For Real (Blu-ray/DVD combo pack release date July 22nd 2014) Heaven Is For Real is a Christian movie that is based on a true story about a 4 year old boy who visits Heaven during an operation (Rated PG). This movie is very popular with both Christians and some non-Christians. The budget for Heaven Is For Real was only 12 million dollars, however as of June 9th 2014 box office sells were almost 92 million dollars. I saw Heaven Is For Real In a movie theater, and I thought the movie was in average movie; however, it was not one of my favorite Christian movies. Heaven Is For Real is a popular movie for those Christians that believe in near death experiences. However, there are some Christians that are offended by this movie since they believe near death experiences are part of the human imagination since the Bible never mentions anyone having a near death experience. Select quotes from article: “But when we compare their claims with Scripture, it becomes clear that they are merely figments of the human imagination, not true visions of heaven as it is described in God’s Word.” “Not one biblical person ever gave any recorded account of his or her postmortem experience in the realm of departed souls.” Are Visits to Heaven for Real? I am disappointed that Heaven is For Real is only being released on a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack for a list price of $40.99. It would have been ideal to offer Heaven Is For Real on a Blu-ray only disc for $10 less for those families that have upgraded all their DVD players to Blu-ray players. Blu-ray players only cost around $50 and the Blu-ray format is 8 years old now. Movie collectors that own 100% Blu-ray players are getting tired of spending an extra $10 for a DVD disc that they will never use. At the time of this posting, the cheapest online price I located the Heaven Is For Real Blu-ray/DVD combo pack, is at Walmart for $29.96. Last edited by Scottie; 08-26-2017 at 11:37 PM. |

Authoring and stamping a DVD disc adds to the cost of the package media. Sometimes its $10 or more, other times it increases the list price between $3-$5 to include the DVD disc.
Some examples: Last Ounce of Courage Blu-ray (list price $24.97) Last Ounce of Courage Blu-ray/DVD combo pack (list price $34.97) The Lost Medallion: The Adventures of Billy Stone Blu-ray (list price $21.98) The Lost Medallion: The Adventures of Billy Stone Blu-ray/DVD combo pack (list price $24.98) |

Yes, I'm aware of the cost and resources devoted to including a DVD with a BD, but time and time again, we have seen combo packs from Warner and other major studios being sold for cheaper than the Blu-ray only versions.
List Price/MSRP/MAP is not the same as actual pricing. |

Maybe this is a sign from God that we should not purchase this movie.

![]() Of course, predictably, they're right for exactly the wrong reasons. You don't need to be a Biblical literalist to be skeptical of NDEs. Near death experiences are unlikely to be true, not because there aren't postmortem accounts in the Bible (so what?), or because the book of John says no one has ascended into heaven except Jesus (again, so what?), but because there is no persuasive evidence today -- gathered under properly controlled conditions -- that these are actual, literal disembodied experiences. People who claim they had a near death experience or were floating outside their bodies in hospital rooms when they were clinically dead are unable to correctly answer simple questions like which playing cards were lying on the top of nearby cabinets and so forth. Further, we can actually trigger out of body experiences in people with drugs or just by activating or, rather, de-activating certain parts of the brain which locate your "self" inside of your body. Once that gets turned off, guess what? That's right, you feel like you have left your own body and are floating outside of it. Modern 21st century neuroscience tells us that the mind (consciousness) is what the brain does; there are no examples of minds without brains. Brain events create mental events. This is demonstrable with fMRI. Once your brain ceases to function, you cease to have mental experiences. There is no good reason to believe otherwise. There is a very interesting Intelligence Squared debate about this very subject (well worth watching, I might add!): |

Never mind that in the Burpo case, their son was likely never in a condition to have a NDE. Most of the evidence point to the whole thing simply being a dream while under anesthesia, which was greatly embellished later over time. |

I'm a Christian, but that is stupid. The bible never mentions my lucky charms cereal either, so I suppose I am living in sin by eating it. LOL! |

For sake of the argument, I don't think being dead is the same as omniscience. If I was dead I doubt I'd pay attention to that anyway, nor would I believe anyone else would actually know either if they had been waiting in the hospital waiting room to hear about my welfare. Paul says he saw heaven, wether in body or spirit he did not know. Even though the church has made Paul a saint, I don't think it's impossible to happen to someone else. In addition, it is possible that when Jesus Christ raised people from the dead like Lazarus, that maybe those people did have a out of body experience and the out of body experience was not recorded in the historical Biblical record. In the movie the kid does not die but instead has a near death experience. Last edited by HDTV1080P; 06-12-2014 at 11:39 PM. |

Do not be surprised that this film offends some people. Jesus was the ONLY perfect person and even HE offended the religious people.
I'm a Christian, but I find that there are some legalistic "Christian" people who are more destructive than non-christian. Thankfully, Christianity as a whole can't be judged by a few rotten apples. |

You're probably right, haha. I'm not trying to start anything negative at all. I just don't take kindly to being indirectly referred to as "destructive" because I don't believe in a deity, but it's possible that the commenter didn't mean that to sound the way it does, so I'm not too bothered by it. Just seemed like something that needed to be clarified.

Review is up:
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Heave...104227/#Review Martin Liebman reviewed it and he seems to give top marks to any "spiritual" movie, but I've never had an issue with his technical assessments and apparently this disc is a winner on that front. |
