Watched my copy today, what better day but Saturday to watch this film!

The transfer the audio and so far the commentary make this release A+

This is a must buy! Such a great to me almost u known film. Call it noir or mellodrama but great cast and thrilled that Fox restored this film and it looks as great as it does.

Blind buy. I'm sure it'll be good, and I can't resist that 2:55:1 widescreen.

Just watched this last night, good flick. Favorite line "Here you go kid, put this in your kisser and go over there and suck on it" or a variation of that anyway

I'm really happy they decided to record a commentary track for this film, as it definitely deserves it. I'm looking forward to picking this one up.

Very interested in this film as well, but thinking I may go the MoC route instead. Beaver says PQ is the same across all three (and our very own Blu-ray.com shows the same PQ for just the Euro versions) and I'd almost prefer 4.0 over 5.1 on a film of this vintage. Yes, I'll miss the commentary and isolated score of the TT version, but almost feel the 32 page booklet, English subtitles, the lesser price, and the "Melodrame Policier" doc could make up for it. Decisions. Decisions...

Loved this movie, definitely in my top 5 Twilight Time releases. A noir that violates many of the genre's conventions and has some oddball aspects, yet is still for the most part extremely effective. Excellent cinematography and some intriguing use of location.

If I had a region-free player, I would have gone the MoC route as well. I simply do not understamd why 4.0 audio would be available on the other editions, but the Twilight Time would get only the 5.1. 4-Track Stereo titles do not need 5.1 retools. You'd think that Twilight Time would go for the 4.0 given their cinephile disposition.

i got the MoC release a while ago. and i would pick it again over this release.

TT releases look fairly cheap in their blu amaray cases, compared to what you get from MoC / Criterion / Arrow / BFI.

the bonus features on the MoC release are in HD and pretty interessting and well done. the booklet is full of information around the movie...
even for the same price the MoC release would be the better deal..

i never watched a isolated score as well. couldnt care less for that one^^

Just finished this. I thought it was very good, a little slow but never boring(for me). The picture and sound were great and I thought everyone involved was great. I especially loved watching Richard Egan act drunk, his acting was perfect and very believable. What a fine actor I never heard of. I'm surprised how under the radar this film is. I'm a little miffed a Twilight Time for including a picture on the back side of the case that gives away a pivotal scene in the movie. If you own it or are thinking of getting it, and it's at all possible don't look the back cover until after you watch it. Otherwise it's a great presentation.

Is spanish release of this a bootleg and if so, should I get it or would it be a waist of money. I only ask because it seems to be the only release that’s still in print and I know Spain has a bootleg problem.

Is it it worth getting or should I just get the dvd from twilight time that’s still fairly cheap on eBay?

Or is there a possibility of a official release here or in any country in the future?

Do not, under any circumstances, get the DVD. It's letterboxed and not anamorphically enhanced for widescreen TVs, and it's aspect ratio is 2.55.1, so you would have to manually zoom the picture on whatever TV you're using. The picture quality is awful. The blu-ray, on the other hand, looks fantastic.

Hopefully someone re-releases this for those that missed out on the previous blu-rays. However, with the Disney-Fox merger I'm not so sure if or when that will even happen. The blu-ray really is gorgeous, though. The DVD is crap.

There’s a fairly cheap listing on eBay for $34.99.
