Generally in movies with more or less action scenes in it we already know what will happen or at least that the main characters(and especially the main character) are almost sure ,not to say sure not to be injured (or at least killed)
But when it s not a die hard type of movie, i think it is sometime good not to say generally, that some vulnerability to the characters is put in it in order to add some serious feeling of reality let s say. I decided to create this thread after i had just watched we own the night that i thought would be a typical cop(or thriller) movie, even though it is not a revolutionary film i must admitt it has an original thing, it is realistic in the sense that we can t really tell by advance what s going to happen( if a character will be injured badly or even killed) which adds a really other dimension to movies like this one, the other one i remember which is this way is children of men, since the car pursuit scene where it happens what it happens(don t wana tell too much for those who wuldn t have seen yet!) we really care and wonder what will happen to the main characters. so if you see some other "realistic" movies just talk about them, thx Last edited by gaeljet; 06-08-2008 at 11:09 PM. |

I actually teach crime scene forensics and there is no movie that is realistic. The closest I have seen is The Assassination of Jesse James. Nobody that is shot dies immediately, and somebody shot with a double-barreled shotgun will not fly through the air (they actually slump over forward). Truth is always stranger than fiction, however.

L.A. CONFIDENTIAL and GONE BABY GONE. Even though the former has some slightly sensationalized moments (James Ellroy says that the shootout at the end of the film is crap, but that it was necessary for the movie, which is 99% accurate), I always thought those were two of the best crime thrillers in the last ten years in terms of story, character and accuracy. And GONE BABY GONE is my favorite film from last year since buried beneath the crime story is the moral quandary at the end of the film. It's a movie that probes what doing the right thing really means.
