Unhappy Blu-ray section getting blocked by more people...

On my way to work 1010WINS had a blurb how Blu-ray is being adopted at a faster pace in Germany than DVD 11 years ago. I presume the same is true here in America. This weekend I visited Walmart, Best Buy, and Circuit City. Naturally I went straight for the blu-ray section.

Each time, there were people standing in front of it, looking, and otherwise blocking my attempts to see the offerings. While the number of movies has increased, I either already have the movie, or don't care for what they have now.

But the point is, even though the size of the blu-ray section is bigger in each store, I could hardly get near it. Maybe being a Sunday afternoon had something to do with it. I was used to having the aisle to myself with only the occasional fellow looker.

The only movie they had which I wanted was 2001: A space Odyssey. It was $27.95 at BB. Amazon has it for $18.95. Looks like Amazon is getting my business. No people in my way either.

So far Amazon has been my life blood for Blu-Ray as I can typically get them cheaper and only paying a small fee a month I get free 2 day shipping and they typically arrive on time at my house anyway.

Also it bothers me to no end when you are in a store and you are going in for a movie and you see someone at the checkout with the movie you want and you go back to the section to see they are sold out.

Also it saves enough money on gas (Over $4/gal where I live).

As disc sales increase and stores note more people lingering in the bd media aisle, the bd section will increase in size. Interest is a good thing, especially since interest breeds interest.

I've also noticed more people in the Blu section of Best Buy, Wal-Mart, etc.

It's good to see the format gaining popularity.

This reminds me all too much of anime. Back in the day, when Anime was just hitting USA, it was me and the occasional other person in the entire section. Then as it hit DVDs the sections grew. Nowadays, I am lucky to have it to myself, it is a very popular item now. But unlike Blu-ray, its prices are still higher than your average DVD after all this time. I full expect Blu-ray to drop to near DVD prices soon (it has already started, look at amazon).

That made me laugh and how true. I remember when dvd first came out. I felt so special checking out that one shelf of dvds at Suncoast. None of my friends had a dvd player yet, never mind some never even heard of dvds.

It just feels like you discovered a hidden treasure that not many people know about yet

Deja Vu all over again when i first bought blu-ray.

My Walmart has a very nice selection . Talked to the guys there and they said they move maybe 5 - 10 movies a MONTH. Sad.

What's even more frustrating is when people block the aisle after fainting from seeing the high prices on Blu-ray titles.

Couple things....

First, yeah.. Amazon, and Half.com is pretty much the only place I buy movies from anymore....

second... you're "in the aisle" story makes me picture a nervous, fidgity guy...... no offense of course

Amazon has got to be doing the volume of Blu-ray. It is amazing that no other store has picked up on the pricing that Amazon has. At most it should be a couple bucks over Amazon, not $10. Fools.

Walmart currently has I Am Legend for $14.00 and a lot of movies for under $15, Best Buy also has a sale going on right now.
Anyone who pays retail for movies deserves everything that they get and receive no sympathy.

It isn't out of the ordinary that on a Sunday morning there may be 50 to 100 people waiting for the doors to open at my local Best Buy. Guess how many people are looking at BDs including me?

Guess it depends where you live and what may be offered on sale.

I feel you. I know that it is a good thing that people are more interested in Blu-Ray, but I still remember the glory days when we BD enthusiasts had the whole blu-ray section to ourself, and the blank look we got from employees when they said "Blu-What?". I always liked recruiting people when they walked by and stopped to look at the BD section.

I am starting to notice Blu Ray is getting picked up in my city. On release dates at Target they get about 10 Blu Ray copies of a movie. And I go there just to check it out and notice only 2 to 3 Blu's left.

I do wish they would work on releasing the movies faster on Blu-ray also. I hate having to wait. I also can't wait for Iron Man, wish they would hurry up and give us the release date, I fear they will wait closer to Christams or Thanksgiving. Hoping for a August release date.

It all depends on which numbers the studio wants to bolster. Q3, or Q4. Heck, compared to Transformers last year, at least we are getting Iron Man THIS year.
