Default Worth Upgrading These Films?

Hey,

I own The Prestige, Casino Royale, Troy, and The Rock on standard DVD and I was going to buy them all on Blu-ray, but I watched Casino and Troy SD on Blu-ray player and they looked quite amazing, but I can imagine the Blu-ray is better or not much better.

I want to know if any of these titles are worth upgrading, because if the Blu-ray player upconverts them nicely enough on SD, I won't put out the cash.

Thanks.

An easy decision for me as I owned each of those on SD DVD. Don't forget about the audio!

Casino Royal is a reference title on Blu-ray and The Rock is quite amazing as well, so definite recommendations to replace the DVD. I didn't have the other two on DVD.

Personally hate Casino Royale, but the BD had very good PQ and worth buying if you're a fan.

The Rock BD blows the SD DVD release out of the water. You will see a vast difference in quality in the BD. I was shocked when I first watched it. Still am, really. I own the Troy: Directors Cut BD as well but did not own the DVD. It is still amazing to watch. I'm sure it is leaps and bounds above the DVD. I'd at least go for these two with no questions asked.

I would think Troy would be the single 'must own' Blu-Ray from the group.

Casino Royale maybe if you are a big Bond fan. The Rock? Really? The Prestige was a good movie and all...but I don't know if I would buy it twice.

Troy is a historic tale. It has survived thousands of years. It was an automatic BD purchase for me.

The Rock is honestly one of the best looking Blu-rays out there, catalog or not. Casino Royale is one of my best Blu-rays as far as rewatchability and everything.

I personally think that The Prestige is one of the better movies I've seen in a long time. The PQ is one of the best, IMO. It's a movie I've watched at least five times since I've owned it. If you like it as much as me, then it's worth double dipping.

Definitely Casino Royale.

If you can sit through Troy, then it is completely amazing...site and sound.

I'll echo that. I love The Prestige. It's an excellent character piece.

All those movies have Blu-ray transfers worthy of asking to be upgraded from SD

As someone else said, audio is also a big improvement & considerably noticeable with the right equipment

Troy Director's Cut is a must, especially if you only have the regular on DVD

Casino Royale too

The Rock is a phenomenal upgrade from the DVD. Casino Royale is a bit of an upgrade also, but not as dramatic as the Rock, but still worthy of being upgraded. I got Troy as a blind buy never having seen the DVD, but PQ was amazing!! If you have patience you should be able to get each of these around $15 on a nice sale or in a BOGO.

i've replaced troy and the prestige from sdvd....i think they were well worth the replacement, the pq and sq are defenetly way better...although if you buy the director's cut of troy you will see some extended scenes so it will be slightly longer than the sdvd version...

This is part of the reason I stopped buying DVDs in advance of getting into Blu-Ray, I didn't want to have to decide on double-dips.
That said, I have not seen the DVD versions, but the Prestige and Casino Royale are absolutely wonderful on blu-ray. They are well worth it.
