Default Do 1990s sci-fi/fantasy series have any hope of Blu-ray release?

Science fiction and fantasy series of the 1990s are full of computer-generated special effects. And those effects were done after the original film masters were transferred to standard definition video. To release these series in HD, they would have to make another transfer from the film masters and redo every special effect from scratch.

So far, Star Trek: The Next Generation is the only one of these series that's getting this treatment. Is there any hope for other series like Babylon 5, Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel or is the process of creating special effects so expensive that the Blu-ray sales will never cover the costs?

It would probably look even more awful in HD then. When everything is clear and crisp, cheap tv cgi special effects are more obvious and the lack of blending into the real-world elements look really bad - stick with dvd or vhs for those shows!

I'm not a religious man but would be willing to convert if The X-Files received the Blu-ray treatment afforded to TNG.

I think it's way too expensive redoing all the special effects.

I think we can expect The X-Files in proper HD at some point but any other effects based shows may not be popular enough to justify the cost involved - not until they can do it much cheaper anyway.

I agree - I would say that the crappy CGI is as much part of the 90's charm of these shows as is the videotape they were edited on
