Default Panasonic BD50 release July 31st.

visualapex.com e-mailed me that Panasonic has given them a release date of July 31st for the DMP-BD50.
The race is on ... BD50 or Sony S550. Which will be out first and get my money!

I heard the BDP-S350 could be as late as September now (it was expected before the 550). If you can't wait, the overpriced Pana might be your only choice.

Overpriced?
How about the new Denons ($999 & $1,999)? They are only profile 1.1, and won't onboard decode True-HD or DTS-MA
visual apex.com is taking pre-orders for the BD50 at $599; list will be $699.

Denon's are waaay overpriced.

BD50 at $599? I thought Pana announced pricing a few weeks back at $799 usd?

The $1999 Denon absolutely has onboard decoding for Dolby THD and DTS HDMA. It also uses the best SD DVD upconverting solution available.

5th maybe?

They have always been vague, by saying things like "early May", "mid May", "June".

/yawn

Wake me up when it gets here.

I used to be waiting for this player, but not anymore. I'm moving on. The delays are just ridiculous. I have a ps3 already but I want to bitstream my audio to my receiver.

Is there any estimation or comparison on how the PQ AQ specs of the BDP-S350 compare to the BD50? I am assuming with the BDP-S350 it will bitstream HD, but doesnt handle the actual decoding right? I have been waiting a looong time to get my Pioneer Elite 94 to light up with DTS-HD, and Dolby TrueHD

Check the under Players on the site. The 350 will only Bitstream and will not be profile 2.0 out of the box, it will need a firmware update. However @ 399.99 (last price I saw) it is easier on the wallet. The date I have is early August for the Sony

The new BD-1800BD from Denon will be 799$MSRP. It will decode everything but will be HDMI only, it will have a Stereo output and 2 DSP for those for CD Audio Player Plurist... It's still 1.1

boy won't toshiba be jealous when they find out that denon is offering an equivalent solution to their supposedly "super" upcon player? lol... as the toshiba rep put it "it uses the best upcon technology available and is only about $300-$400"

anyways... BD-50 will be epic and may just be my first standalone... or i'll pick up a discontinued 30 when they go on sale for cheap $$$$$$$
