John Gibbons from the Bluejays is next. Jays have the identical record to the Mets and were suppose to compete. Instead, find themselves in last place in the AL East... toughest division in baseball now that the Rays are on fire.

I agree purple it was a bs way of letting him go, they should of had the balls to do it after last years collapse when he lost his team. The mets i don't think could of handled this situation any worse imo.

You know, I agree here. I am quite the Mets fan, but Omar Minaya (the GM) is spineless. He's got a great eye for player talent, but the way he fired Randolph is just an indication of how he handles uncomfortable situations....

However, I am glad it's finally done, as the players were growing uncomfortable with the situation. These guys shouldn't be sitting where they are in the standings, as they are way too talented.

A new bench boss may not be the answer to the woes of the Mets, but it's a change in direction. As for Randolph, I'm sure he won't be unemployed for long.

That's exactly how it should of went down or when he made those comments to the media would of been another understandable move to let him go then. But sending him 3,000 miles away and then shoot him a email telling him he is fired while he is asleep is just pathetic.

I will have tune in to see what mike and the dog have to say about this today at lunch, because they were rightfully killing Omar and the owners for it yesterday.

The Mets have given this lifelong Yankee fan just reaffirmed my belief that The Mets are bush league. Willie did a pretty bad job as manager, yet he still deserved a phone call at the very least. Spineless bunch of weasels in Queens.

That really shows the class of the upper management in the Mets.

Wow. How hard is it to phone him? Was it really that bad that the GM didnt even want to fire him on the phone?

Steinbrenner really needs to shut up. Everything that comes out of his mouth makes him look stupid.

I am fan of the Red Sox and follow the AL a bit more closely, but the way the NL plays is the way baseball is supposed to be played.

He hurt himself running the bases! If he hurt it doing something as simple as that it was going to happen soon enough anyway.

Inter-league play is more at fault for Wang's injury, and not the NL. Players who are not expected to exert themselves in that manner on a regular basis are more prone to inury, but perhaps that is for another thread.

If the Yankees had fired a manager in this way, I would be equally disgusted.

So you and Francona and Henry wouldnt be pissed if Beckett got hurt running the bases and was out the rest of the season? Its a heat of the moment statement. If you dont like him, dont listen to him and stop being a Red Sox homer

I have learned long ago to take anything said from the mouth of a Steinbrenner with a grain of salt. That said he needs to stop whining, it's apart of the game and has been for years now. Inter-league play is nothing new and the pitchers should be prepared to take their swings and run the bases period, end of discussion!

Yes its part of the game, and he didnt mean it. Its just you JUST lost your best pitcher for the basically the rest of the year. Hes not going to say "Oh well its not a happy time but what are you going to do" Thats not what he says and its idiots that bring it up as if he has never said something like this before
