I don't know what's going on? I just bought couple of movies, mostly ones from the Paramount and Dreamworks. I noticed that Shooter, Italian Job, and Next have a lot of pixelations! My TV is a Sony KDS 60A3000 my player is the PS3 connected through HDMI cables. I'm not sure if it's with the 120Hz turned on cause the pixelations. I just recently been leaving the 120Hz on for my movies and I noticed quite a bit of pixelation and it's bugging the hell out of me. I know Paramount doesn't so well in their transfer so I was just wondering if anyone else has this problem or is it just me?

I don't have a TV with the setting but playing around with the motion settings at the store (since I'm hoping to purchase one soon), it frequently would cause an area around the object moving where the screen would get pixelated or distorted. Kind of hard to explain what it looked like. I'd try turning off all that stuff just to see how it looks then.
Anyway, Paramount/Dreamworks titles have been fine for me. |

I have both Shooter and Italian Job. Shooter is a fantastic looking picture, Italian Job on the other hand is just a piece of crap with a lot of static, other noise and tons of distracting grain. If you watched Italian Job first, it's possible your TV is mad that you would dare display such crap upon it and it decided to get even by making Shooter look like crap .... just a theory.
But seriously I have the 60hz refresh and Shooter should be looking beautiful. |

Most of Paramounts releases prior to their defection to HD DVD were encoded in a low bitrate MPEG-2 codec. That is the reason that the picture quality does not live up to most other Blu-rays on the market. They were too cheap to invest so much into the releases when they couldn't tell which format was going to be victorious. They wanted to spend as little as possible and still be able to price their Blu-ray releases at $27+ to capitalize on the "crazies," as some would call us early adopters. And yes, the AQ is often the standard DVD fare as well for the same reason.

I don't have shooter, but Italian Job and Tomb Raider look like complete Dog shit. (Italian job is the better of the two, so don't feel that bad.)
When I bought my first Blu-Ray player last year this time, I didn't know anyone else who had made the jump and I didn't know about this site so when I bought Tombraider, I was completely heartbroken. All my other discs looked great...so what was wrong with this one??? I actually exchanged it at circuit city thinking something was wrong, but the manager made me put my new one in at at the store to make sure I wasn't scamming him. As it turns out, alot of people and a lot of stores (at the time) were still running composite cables to their new lcd tv's and at 480i, it looks pretty good. When I took the new one home to HDMI and 1080p land, it was just like the first copy. I know what you mean...it is not just grain with these Paramount titles...there is a very particular digital noise pattern that resembles a broken, dotted box shape...like a target only a box. I pisses me off, because some of Tombraider looks STUNNING and some of it looks like my grandmother's ashtray hit my TV screen. I hear ya...not much you can do. Good luck, PM me if you need to vent, later, |
