the Pioneer 500 also had a cracked screen like a garage sale type tv....and it still was outstanding...but not part of the entries for voting.
for the first time there was no reference quality tv in the shootout. There was a Panny VT60 available but it was not shown or turned on during the event. If it had, it would have blown away everything else like Secretariat winning the Belmont. Last edited by punisher; 08-26-2014 at 08:55 PM. |

Well, is the livestream from Saturday’s session still available (and unedited) online?
Then, for one thing, if after your having listened to it carefully, feel free to correct me if I’m not correct regarding ‘Joe says’ - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...an#post9596761 or, for that matter, in case I’m in the wrong with anything else on that entire page from the ‘little but fierce’ HEVC thread ![]() |

It went up against the VT30, not the VT50. |

It's amazing how so many people want a plasma now, but after years of real videophiles explaining the picture quality people want to hope on the bandwagon now! Listen if you love a television I believe you should by it. I'm tired of people complaining about the ShootOut.
I don't recall people acting like this when the F8500 and ZT had different opinions. LG has shown a great product and the sky is the elimate for LG right now. It seems that all the Samsung fanboys seem a little scared. It's all right change is good. If you have not seen the OLED take a visit to your local Best and bring a flash drive and ask if it would be all right to test content on the television with Best Buy consultant. Maybe they will say yes. I have a Pioneer Elite, but if it goes there is no doubt in my mind that I would purchase an OLED! Size is the determining factor! |

I also have a Pioneer Elite - the Pro-151 - and I just got the 79" Sony UHD. I don't want to wait for them to squeeze the life out of everybody for a decent-sized OLED - I probably paid half of what it will cost for a 77" OLED, and what I really want is something around 100" or better. The picture is fine with me (there is some flashlighting if you drive it like a Death Star laser beam, but otherwise it's marvelous) and colors beat the pants off anything I've seen from LG or Samsung, regardless of technology. It's an element that gets short shrift in most of these comparisons. It's not just buying an OLED; it's actually paying for it that gives me heartburn. They need to standardize the technology, give these units some size that makes the 4k/UHD worth it, and pump them out. OLED just lost a sale... |

^ Both are great tv's. If you watch mostly in a dark room the Panasonics where slightly better. If you watched more in a bright room the f85000 was better. Not sure why anyone is really trying to argue otherwise or as if their is currently a huge swell of Panasonic owners telling people the f8500 is overrated. Just that the panny's provided something that was more suitable for them. Both are among the best tv's thus far released.

I do know the experts said at the time they would be happy with any of the three PDP panels on show, but there vote went to the ZT. So no big deal really guys, they are all fantastic TV's that I have had the pleasure of viewing side by side at a shootout and I agree that I would be happy with any one of them.

I used to own a Panasonic ST30, VT60, briefly had an F8500, and now own the F5300. I've gone front projection, so flat panels mean relatively little to me anymore as my JVC RS4810 front projector paired with my Stewart StudioTek 100 scope screen which is 9 foot wide is in a completely different universe than these flat panels that has to be experienced to be believed.
Anyway, with that said, the Panasonic had notably better blacks, contrast, and ansi-contrast than the Samsungs. They are the best displays for a light-controlled room. Alaskan's contrast chart is meaningless when these displays are at the same ftL which is how they should be compared. The Samsungs also float blacks which means as soon as you go from an all black screen to some content even at low APL, the black levels rise and the contrast drops. MLLs of .023 (not a mistype) are not uncommon with 18% or so APL patterns. The Pansonic VT60 will still remain close to .0012 at this point. Huge difference. The Panasonics hold their blacks like a vice-grip. The Samsung plasmas are still excellent (and better than LEDs) and I am really impressed with my little 51F5300. Great display for the money and calibrates really nicely. Last edited by HeavyHitter; 09-11-2014 at 02:53 AM. |

Ever consider doing them semi-annually? Also, next time how about some dancin’ girls like they had at last week’s 4K OLED event at Video & Audio Center in Santa Monica…https://www.facebook.com/SpiritDance...type=1&theater They’re better looking than Joe and tend not to speak beyond their experience or expertise. |
