Default 1080p displays (Checkerboard pattern)

I've recently noticed on the new 1080p DLP displays that I'm seeing something that appears similar to interlacing on standard definition (old fashioned) interlaced CRT televisions.

Remember how you used to be able to see the lines when following title scrolls, or anything moving up or down the screen at the correct rate? On the 1080p DLP displays, I'm seeing a very small checkerboard pattern when following moving items in almost any direction. It gives the appearance of every other pixel being off, in a checkerboard pattern. I do remember hearing something about a limitation on 1080p DLP displays, but I don't remember the details.

However, I was surprised the other day to see one of the new Westinghouse 1080p (in an HD-DVD display at Best Buy) display the same effect. So far the only video projectors, displays, televisions, etc., capable of displaying full 1080p resolution on which I haven't seen this effect are Sony's SXRD based units.

That's basically a Samsung TV with a Sony logo.

I'd recommend saving up the extra beans and going for an SXRD and finishing it.

But do it when the TV's have HDMI inputs that accept native 1080p signals, which should hopefully be 3rd or 4th quarter of this year.

Actually this TV is coming out in the US/Canada by Q3 (sometime in August or September) while Europe gets it in June or July this year.

As for Japan, since they had the X series since early last year, Sony Japan would sell a newer version of it (which apparently is the one being mentioned above)

So for ALL X-series sets (got a quote from someone from AVS forums):

"The X is 1080p native. 1:1 pixel mapping. No p conversions necessary. Releases late August or early September. $500 more than the V."

This will definitely include a newer version of HDMI (either 1.1 or 1.3)
