Default Problem!

I have a 37 inch. Westinghouse, the ps3 and the new M1000 series hdmi connection. Why is it that the 1080i looks better than the 1080p? It seems a lil blurry; then theres a blue line that goes across the screen and movie dont seem to play as sharp.

I have the 42 inch westy. HDMI input from the PS3 was problematic (blinking in and out). I solved the problem by going to a HDMI to DVI cord for the ps3 and putting my cable box through the HDMI input on the TV. No problems after that.

Ask Westinghouse. Currently there is a firmware upgrade being issued for their TVs.

Default Where Is Info On Firmware Upgrade?

WriteSimply,

Do you have a link to the firmware upgrade information. I know that they can in theory perform a firmware upgrade at the Factory over the RS-232 connection. I would like to know if Westinghouse has made any firmware fixes to their sets. I and other people have had trouble with devices that use HDCP with the Westinghouse sets. I hope they fix this problem since many people that have D-VHS and HDTV cable boxes end up using component inputs.
Back in the Summer of 2005 the LVM-37w1 was the cheapest 1080P monitor available and the very first one on the market that had a 1080P input that supported HDCP I wish the Digital inputs would have worked on it. Back in 2005 they did not have any firmware update and I could not use the Digital inputs on the monitor since it had trouble with HDCP devices. Really upsetting and at the time there was no firmware to correct the problem.

Default Waiting to hear back from Westinghouse

I have emailed Westinghouse to see if they offer any firmware updates for the LVM-37w1. I have had trouble using the 1080P DVI input with devices with HDCP. The top of the line D-VHS had to be connected using the component inputs. I have also read articles and reviews that other people had problems connecting HDCP devices to Westinghouse 1080P monitors like HDTV cable boxes and PLAYSTATION 3.
I hope Westinghouse offers a firmware update to fix this problem or I will need to some day get a new monitor. Back in summer of 2005 it was the only monitor that had a 1080P HDCP input, but if you can not connect anything that uses HDCP the digital input is useless unless you want to connect a standard DVD player that does not use HDCP. In theory they could apply a firmware update at the factory by RS-232 connection to fix this problem if a update is available.

If the PS3 works fine on every other 1080p TV, I have a hard time believing it's Sony's fault. And my JVC D-VHS works fine on every other TV accept the Westinghouse and when I called Westinghouse they said it was a problem with the D-VHS.

Default More info on the problem

Click on the link below and read below the article to see other people having problems with this Westinghouse brand. Westinghouse needs to fix this issue or people are going to stop buying there products. Here is two quotes from this website

“12. RE: PS3 Blinking Mystery Deepens:
I have the LVM-37w3. I just received the HDMI-->DVI cable that Westinghouse sent me. It doesn't fix the issue. Now they want me to send the set to them! WTF! I can't live without my TV!!

11. RE: PS3 Blinking Mystery Deepens:
I have the Westinghouse 37W1. I also have a PS3 and a motorola HD DVR Cable box neither of them work with this set. They both loose HDCP sync and scramble their pictures. This is definately a problem with Westinghouse and HDCP. I even bought an upscaling DVD player and it wouldn't work on this set either due to the HDCP issues. Westinghouse better fix this problem quickly or a lot of people will see their decite in trying to blame every other device out there.”

I'd rather unplug/replug an HDMI cable for little while, then spend $800 more dollars on some other TV.

BTW, it's certainly not just this display, but a lot of other HDTVs and projectors.

Here's a guy with a SONY projector having the same issue,

Westinghouse MAKES TVS?!?!?!?

I thought they only made ovens and refrigerators (heck my family still has a Westinghouse oven from the 70s :P)

But all seriousness aside, is this company related to.........White Westinghouse (now part of the Electrolux Group)???

From what I have read, another company wanted to start making LCD TVs, but didn't have an established name, so they started making TVs under Westinghouse's name, and now they are becoming a major competitor and also helping LCD prices come down thanks to their great work.

Yes I agree that other manufactories are having problems with DVI and HDMI compatibility issues. The problem with the 37” 1080P I have that I can not so far connect anything to it that has HDCP if I want to use the DVI input. This is a bad problem of the Westinghouse monitor. Now I do understand that with HDMI 1.3 specifications connecting HDMI 1.3 devices together in theory suppose to eliminate handshaking problems with HDCP.

Default Westinghouse emailed me and told me there is no firmware update

I heard back from Westinghouse today regarding the LVM-37w1 monitor. This was Westinghouse’s first 1080P monitor released back in the summer of 2005. Basically they told me there is no firmware updates and that it is not manufactured anymore. So this HDCP issue will never get resolved with this model. One will just have to use component inputs if their HDCP device does not work. Now to give Westinghouse a little positive feedback, their new monitors have less HDCP problems compared to the discontinued model I own. Of course even their top of the line monitors still have HDCP issues once and a while when connecting PS3 or a HDTV cable box using HDMI or DVI connection. The following is a cut and paste from the email I sent them.

Hello ,

Thank you for your inquiry.

There are no updates for this model . It is not manufactured anymore .

Hello,
I own the LVM-37w1. I was wondering if you offer any firmware updates
for this model? If you do offer a firmware update what improvements have
been made in the new firmware? Can the firmware be downloaded from the
web and user installed or would the monitor need to be sent to a service
center for a firmware update? I and other people have had trouble
connecting HDTV devices that use the HDCP feature. It appears to be some
type of incompatibility problem with the software in your 1080P monitor
when a HDCP device connected to the monitors digital input.
Thanks for your time

Yes this is the new LVM-37W3 which replaced the LVM-37W1. In theory you should have less problems with this monitor but some people have issues with it still. The new LVM-37W3 has both a HDMI and DVI 1080P input. Also new one is 8 ms response time. Westinghouse also makes a 42 inch and a 47 inch 1080P model. LVM-47w1, LVM-42w2. Unless some one really likes the cheap price of Westinghouse 1080P I do not recommended people purchase their monitors until the HDCP issue is resolved. HDMI 1.3 has quality standards manufactories have to meet. Maybe a new model on Westinghouse in the future will have HDMI 1.3. If I was buying a new 1080P Westinghouse the brand would be the very last on my list. Sony and JVC rear projectors are so much better even though one may have to spend a extra $500 or $600 dollars.

Just got my taxes done, but I must resist clicking the "Place in Cart" button. I'll make do with what I got, especially since I plan on buying a PS3, Lord willing.
