Default Cleanning PS3 blu-ray drive

Hi people, how do I clean the blu-ray drive in the PS3? Is there some sort of cleanning kit like those DVD-cleaning kits?

yeah just get a regular lens cleaning kit

don't be fooled or tricked into spending more money because a product claims to be made exclusively for blu ray

DO NOT get a cleaning kit

1- They do not work with slot loads
2- Cleaning kits do nothing useful but potentially damage your laser. DO NOT EVER USE ONE.

If your system needs to be cleaned and you don't know how to do it, take it to a professional 99 times out of 100 it won't be because the lens got dirty

Can we get a straight answer on this? I'm in the same boat and I don't want to damage my PS3.

theres a newer one on the market from maxell. it uses air to blow dust off the lens without touching it. i havent used it so i dont know how well it works but i wouldnt use the traditional lense cleaner either unless its a last resort, like a brand new disc not working.

Have you used them on a slot load where it can get jammed?

Dust doesn't get into the drive unless it's very poorly made

If it ain't broke, don't fix it! If you arent having any problems, there is no reason to ever use a cleaning kit on any drive.

The only time IMO you should need to clean them is if you live in an area with a very high pollen count or dust problem, or if it's a smoking environment.

I agree 100% to stay away from lens cleaners. Not only are they a gimic but I have had them take out my Denon DVD and a Sony DVD player.

If you want your lens cleaned, take it apart and hit it with some air, or get it done by a pro..

Thumbs up

The Blu-Ray drive is perhaps the pride and joy of the PS3, so like all good thoughtful owners would do, its best to give it a good cleaning sometime in its lifetime

Youtube video

I don't think this would be required this early in the PS3's lifespan but watch very nice video on youtube.

My laser packed in on my first PS3. Couldn't play games or blu-rays, but DVDs were ok. I followed the procedure in the youtube video linked to above, and - though it was like playing a very tense game of Operation - to my utter amazement, it actually worked. I got another six or seven months out of it before it gave up again.

I'm no great shakes with technology so it is do-able. Not fun, but do-able. But be very careful, especially when dismantling the PS3. Make sure you label all the screws you take out. Don't cut corners - read all the info online, watch the videos, use the right screwdrivers and tools.

Good luck.

Why dosen`t work ? did you try several media like BR , dvd , cd ??? My BR drive in my 80G died after the famous update 3.0 , i open it clean the lens and it work for the length of 1 movie ( anyone who is not familiar with electronics should `t do this - theres a video in youtube explaining step by step ) and i was always getting the same error code , i bought a new drive truth ebay and its working .
