I setup a media server and was streaming some of my home movies through the PS3 and I was surprised at how much better they looked. I had watched them on my PC previously and the quality wasn't that great. Watching them on a 1080P projector through the PS3 was a definite improvment. I could previously see interlacing artifacts very clearly and those were gone.

I like the 24p thing, but as for the upscaler... I don't really see a difference. Still looks good enough though.

Are there any 1080p viewers impressed by this firmware?
Yeah, i have the sammy 1080p and i also have an lg upscaler, and i was very impressed with the ps3! much of the newer movies look great, some older ones (smokey and the bandit) look a little grainy. but all in all, the ps3 does a better job than the lg. cartoons look flawless and damn near HD!! ps2 games look very sharp also!

at first i was a little disapointed, didnt see much difference. Then i read to have it set at Normal, at first i had it set at full screen. Didnt notice much with the POTC Movies, oh well buying them on blu-ray anyway. But then I put in The Matrix Reloaded! Holy Crap, unbelievable, the best ever for watching movies that have not yet made it to blu-ray yet.

I didn't turn on the progressive....this makes it 480p.....I just let it ride and turned on the widescreen....and it was set to 720p....it looked better, actually..and GOW2 was the best looking PS2 game I have ever seen...

now it's on another level..
