Default Is this TV capable of 1080p?

A mate of mine recently bought this tv for his ps3. As you can see the resolution is 1440*900. He's set up his Tv and in the ps3 display options it says "current output resolution 1080p".

I always that 1080p was 1920*1080? Is the PS3 downscaling or is it in fact a 1080p picture he is seeing?

Thanks to anyone that can help

(Haven't posted much on this site (yet ) so apologies in advance if this is in the wrong section)

on a tv that size 1080p wont realy look any different from 720p.

think its 40 or 42inch tv's *AND ABOVE* that show the benefits of 1080p anything below that you wont see a difference

*edit*

Sounds like the tv's downscaling 1080p to 1440x900 (16:10 vertically stretched) or 1440x810 (16:9 with slim black bars).

It says it supports 1080p input on that Play.com page.

Even my 720P LG HDTV says it SUPPORTS 1080p signals coming in, but it cannot output 1080p, which is the same situation for the HDTV posted.

As well, are you sure that is a TV? I have a feeling it's a falsely advertised monitor, because a resolution of 1440x900 is a 16:10 Image, like what Shin-Ra posted, and 16:10 is a monitor ratio where as HDTV's ratio's are 16:9.

As for your 1080P viewing information, 19" is too small to tell the difference between 720P and 1080P.

Yes, the pebble is a monitor.

I happened to read a review of it recently at www.trustedreviews.com

Ultimately that is a computer monitor with tv connections. 1440x900 is a 16:10 computer monitor resolution. You can not get true 1080p with that tv but at 19" it will still look great. Likely it means it understands 1080p and will display it on a PS3 through upconversion of some sort.
