Default Looking for 7.1 capable system

Hello,

I've been looking and searching for the best set-up for my situation. I have a Panasonic Viera full HD LCD TV and a PS3 as blu-ray player (and DVD upconverter). I'm looking for a total package that will be about 500-600 euro (give or take).

I'd like to add a 7.1 capable system to my setup. First, I was thinking of a HTiB system, like the Onkyo HTX-22HD. It's a good price for a full package that is standard 2.0 but upgradable to 5.1 or 7.1 by buying additional speakers.

However, a lot of people recommend me to buy a receiver and seperate speakers/subwoofer. Still with Onkyo, I've checked out this baby:
TX-SR605
or
TX-SR606

These look pretty awesome, but I have a few questions:
  • If I connect my HDMI to the receiver and from their to the TV, will this distort my picture quality? I've read that the SR605 downscales 1080i to 720p and according to some sources, even with simple pass-through, the picture quality is less than if it would have gone directly to the TV. Is this true?
  • which brand of speakers/subwoofer would go well with these receivers?
  • Any other suggestions that would be a better solution than the 3 system I mentioned?
  • Anything else I need to know about or should check into?
Thanks for any feedback ini advance. I'm pretty new at this so I appreciate all the info you guys give on the forums!
