Default Question regarding: "Death Sentence"

I just bought this Blu-ray release and watched it. Decent movie which shows lots of influence from 70s and 80s vigilante movies.

However I was a bit surprised at a scene near the end of the movie where Bacon is sitting on the bench side by side with the gang leader. He asks him "Are you ready?" or something similar, and then the scene cuts to Bacon walking out of the building. Is there censorship involved here? I found it really odd. If it is indeed how the director intended it I find it severly lacking. A picture of the hallway with the echo of a gunshot would have been more fitting.

Me and a friend had this conversation a while ago about this movie.

I said I didn't mind the ending and they said they would have prefered
[Show spoiler]he killed him point blank for what he had done and all the trouble he had caused
.

Ah ok, so this -is- indeed the intended ending. Thanks for clearing it up.
