ROFL! Almost 4:1! Awesome. I am honored to have been one of the ~47,000 people who bout Pirates. Besides, when Matrix comes to Blu-ray it will be the same thing maybe even more sold, proble around 55,000?

This little battle is far from deciding the format war, don't get too caught up in all of it. Almost 50k movies sold. For the format war to be over you're going to need 5m sold. And besides, we're comparing two different movies with different audiences. Why not compare The Matrix sales to sales of Basic Instinct? That would be silly. And so would comparing The Matrix to the Pirates, of course the Pirates are selling better - but they should have been selling much much better, a $25 product versus a $70 product. Should have been an even larger sales difference for anyone to be proud of it. The difference in number of people buying the movies is just 10,000, a relatively small number. Grand scheme of things, it's just a bump on the road. The BDA still needs to drop the prices of their players, they cannot rely on the PS3 forever.

I don't think many (if any) of us are saying it will end the format war. Also, we should all know that BD players will come down in price.

But you see, Matrix was being hailed as the "savior" for HD-DVD. The ones that matched Matrix up with Pirates was all those HD-DVD zealots like the ones on AVS forum, saying things like "who needs Pirates, we got Matrix". That 14,000 or so that bought Matrix on HD-DVD are only the truly hardcore fanboys. No regular joe is gonna spend $70-$100 on this trilogy. So the difference is that the people who bought Pirates on Blu-ray are more likely to be your average customer who don't even read internet forums, while HD-DVD is only being kept afloat by fanboys who can't swallow their pride and let the format just die.

EVEN it is far to win the battle but winning is coming very soon ,but Overall this sign means one thing Pirates are incredible titles so far released on BD including Apocalypto .Our Reaction here is to Show the HD-DVD liers and Who is living in illusion throwing tons of FUD and Untrue Statements on POTC saying that higherbandwidth have some noise reduction and even they lead themselves to conclude Matrix have better PQ.THEY are loosers and they Have a loosing Format ever made till now.

No way - the little that I have read from that forum gives me no desire to post over there....

I knew there was a reason for the drastic price cuts on HD-DVD hardware this week. The HD-DVD side has to do something to increase disc sales. Not that 47,000 Pirates discs is a lot to judge a format by, it is still significantly more than The Matrix sold on HD-DVD. When the fanboys argue that price was a factor in sales of the box set, we need to mention that Apocalypto and Flags of Our Fathers was also released in the same week. The total number of Blu-ray disc sales this month is going to be significant. In other words. A BEAT DOWN!

What does price have to do with it???

They got 3 movies for $75.

POTC1, 2 + Apocalypto = $75.

So a fairer comparison from a money perspective is to compare the 3 disk set of The Matrix to POTC 1&2 and another movie released at the same time, such as Apocalypto.

Actually, I think you're a little off there. It's not a $25 product versus a $70 product, because most people bought both Pirates movies, and most people buying The Matrix HD DVDs got them with incentives, like sale pricing, free movies thrown in, dirt cheap HD DVD players with free copies of The Matrix thrown in. I've seen someone say they got the whole box for only $19.99!

Yeah, if anything, more movies for the matrix should mean they had a better chance, if anything. You want to compare the 2 pirates movie sales to only 2 matrix movies sales? fine. that means they sold even LESS than the numbers are counting. With just TWO movies, we sold 3 times the amount of the sales of their THREE movies. How can anyone say thats not a good thing?

And the whole point is, the HDDVD camp has been saying for weeks leading up to it that Matrix would destroy Pirates, no question. It's just nice to have them proven wrong.

On top of everything else, HD-DVD owners had less movies to chose from. If The Matrix was such a big deal for the format, it should have romped since there was nothing else coming out with the exception of Flags. Blu-ray owners had two Pirates movies, Apocalypto, and Flags.. to chose from and still Pirates romped.

Call me when HD-DVD players hit $50. I might pick one up to watch the occasional Universal movie. Nah..probably not.

Yeah I was confident we'd see this result. Pirates is way hotter right now than The Matrix.

Okay - "threat" from Matrix over. The next big one is going to be Heroes. I think that'll be the true test. It's new and it's definitely hotter than Matrix is these days.

oh c'mon i mean yeah its a good show but you can't compare it with the matrix its probably gonna be $20 cheaper than matrix but i'll think that any1 (me personally) would spend extra $20 and buy the matrix instead of a TV show if they've got more sales than the matrix(hahahaha) i'll be surprised
