If you also assume that Luke and Han are really stormtroopers.

You know I never realized they were all CG until I read it on the net. I was amazed. The illusion worked for me.

Had a huge -huge- grin with the Falcon .. And the X-Wing shot over the ake was really awesome.

Looking forward to more media (hopefully not showing "too" much though) over the upcoming months.

The original was made for $10 million of Fox's money while Lucas put over $1 million of his own cash into starting up ILM, adjust those 1977 doolars for inflation and that's still only about $44 million today. Times that by five and you've got $220 million which sounds about right, yep.

For all the talk of the teaser looking "gritty" I've got to call bullshit because it looks clean and shiny and gorgeous, like most modern big-budget movies end up doing.

But as long as the movie itself captures the zesty personality of the originals (as opposed to the portentous politicising of the prequels) then I'm good.
As long as the modern technology serves the story, then there should be no issue with using the latest tools available to film makers. CGI for the sake of CGI is usually a bad idea. Let's hope they pull this off.

Well, in this case, I use the word "gritty" to communicate that the movie looks REAL - not like some damn cartoon.

I didn't really calculate it, I thought it was $8 million, but the original was kind of a low budget affair even for the day it was made because Fox didn't have that much faith in it. My how the tables have turned. I myself don't mind the clean look. The originals look pretty too on some occasions. Especially on blu. They aren't exactly "gritty" or "grimy". They on the whole have a clean enough look. I'm just so prepped for this. I love the Star Wars films, Prequels included, and JJ is a passionate fan. So I'm reasonably sure he would never set out to screw this up.

I never knew it either honestly. I read about it on net after I had seen the movie and was surprised. I thought ILM did a very convincing job with the troopers.

Also, after reading a lot of comments in this thread, I've come to the realization that some people are just never going to be pleased with anything.

Yeah on that last one. I mean I did not know till only a few years ago. They looked very convincing to me in motion. It makes sense because George was always looking to break new ground with what could be done with effects. He never felt truly happy with his OT because of the budget and technological restraints of the time. The prequels, to me anyways, would then seem to be the kind of films (visually anyway) that he would have made in 77, 80, and 83 if he could have.

lots of obvious cgi shots for a guy saying he was going back to the older style of the original films. Cool looking shots but are we in for style over substance again like with Trek?

And I am sure JJ didn't set out to screw up Trek either, but he did. From just the trailer I am already seeing a lot of the same things he did there being done here - redesign of things(phasers/lightsabers) that make no sense, tons of cgi to make ships do things they never did before but for no reason other than it looks cool(X-wings over water). Time will tell.
