Just impatient, that's all.

Entire trilogy is locked at 2K.
Just out of curiosity why do you say BOFA looks horrible? I saw it in theaters but decided to wait until the EE is released to get it on Blu-ray.

Jackson said months ago that this EE will add about 30 minutes.

This is true, but a couple of weeks after AUJ came out he said the EE would add about 20-25 minutes, and look what happened there. 30 minutes could be something like 27 minutes. Hopefully, it'll be more like 33.

Ah yeah, hopefully those 30 minutes he's talking about don't include the fan credits.
Re-watched the TC this weekend and I still really like it, but I'm excited to see what more the EE will flesh out. As much as I would've liked just a two-movie version of The Hobbit, these EEs have mostly been a pleasant surprise.

If I haven't seen the third movie yet, should I wait for the extended version to see it for the first time do you think? I saw the first two in the theater and wasn't a big fan but I'm kinda curious to see the end sometime, and if the EEs of the first two are actually superior then maybe I want to wait?

Watch the theatrical BotFA; if your complaint with the first two is that they were too long and bloated, the third is easily the most lean and focused. It also cuts back on a lot of the cartoony action and raises the stakes (characters actually die, dunno if you've read the book), so it's definitely worth a look.

Yeah, seeing the gif of cartoon CGI Legolas running on cartoon falling bridge blocks like Wile E Coyote was the primary reason I didn't see it in the theater.

My issue with the first two wasn't bloat, I guess I just wasn't very interested by them compared to the LOTR movies. I didn't have a strong enough reaction to them to really think hard about what was wrong with them, they just sort of went in one eye and out the other. I also HATED some of the cartoony crap with dwarves dancing like cartoon characters on Smaug's mouth as he gets pulled up and down in some kind of cartoony slapstick chase sequence after previously being pretty menacing, etc. Though I did love the silly barrel chase sequence in which the dwarf gets a barrel over his head and starts spinning around like Donkey Kong in Smash Bros.

I read the book a long, long time ago and also saw that old animated movie a couple times and my memory was basically just that
[Show spoiler]EVERYONE dies besides Bilbo, haha.

So, it sounds like I should just watch the theatrical version. Guess I'll look into renting it or something, unless the theatrical trilogy goes down to 12 bucks like the LOTR one did :P

Yeah I feel you on how the Smaug action in DoS was out of place; I didn't hate it but when I made my own two-movie edit I made sure to cut that out haha. If you felt apathetic during the first two movies, I think Battle is focused enough on the final endgame to make you care again, if only a little.

And MifuneFan, I said "cut back" on cartoony action, not eliminated

Really hope we get lots more extensions and new scenes near the end.

Biggest problem I have is that the movie feels far to rushed to wrap up and end when it does.

That Legolas scene would be perfect if it had some classic Super Mario music playing in the background and some golden coins floating about.

Can't wait to see what new scenes will be included in the Extended Edition. Hopefully they won't be wasted on more Alfrid and Tauriel.

You guys know that the cartoony violence represents The Hobbit being "lighter" material than LOTR, right? I guess not.

I enjoyed BOTFA enough but it was choppy as hell especially the ending. They omitted a very important scene. I'm happy that it's getting 30 more minutes to breathe.

Bah, I love that Legolas block-jumping scene in Five Armies. It's established in the films that he's especially light of foot (walking on top of the snow at Caradhras in FOTR) so I don't got a problem with it.

He hopped and skipped on top of the dwarves heads and on the barrels in DoS, so I'd say that was established (plus he's a woodland elf, so its also a given ). Legolas has a couple "I'm really a videogame character" in like every movie, so I've come to expect something over the top will happen if he's in an action scene.

There were no fan credits on The Hobbit, as opposed to LOTR.
