So after looking at my collection I'd also add these:
La Dolce Vita (its one I always watch in the Summer) 12 Angry Men Stray Dog A bunch of Bergmans early stuff (Wild Strawberries, Summer With Monika and Smiles Of a Summer Night come to mind) And probably more too. |

Looks like those who predicted Jellyfish Eyes were correct:

Yes, I mentioned the Bergman films. I've seen 12 Angry men. I was wondering about La Dolce Vita, because it looked somehow summer-y to me. Thanks for confirming. i can't find the film Stray Dog you say in the collection. ![]() I just thought also that i would LOVE if Criterion could release Before Night Falls. |

High & Low, I believe, is also during summer. Although, the supplemental materials said that it was filmed when it was cold, so that Mifune and his other actors would have to consciously act as if it were, in fact, hot. I thought that was quite clever on AK's part.

Its a noir by Kurosawa about a police officer searching for the man who stole his gun on the hottest week of the summer. Not sure if you're looking to buy or just to watch, but if you're just looking to watch its a good bet! Missed that you mentioned 3 of the Bergman films, but Wild Strawberries still fits the bill, and La Dolce Vita works like a charm! Some of the suggestions might not take place *during* the summer but they're films that work best in Summer, I think. You might have seen these two but I always like watching The Battle Of Algiers and the Wages Of Fear too. Basically anything with heat ![]() |

The Wages of Fear is a good August movie in my neck of the woods. Every time I start to complain about the heat and humidity here in Georgia during that month, I can remind myself that, at the least, I'm not stuck in some ramshackle bunk in a South American town or transporting explosives across the countryside.
Come to think of it, Letter Never Sent is not a bad choice for similar reasons, except that the movie works well year 'round. |

If I have the Criterion of Blow Out and plan to get the Criterion of Dressed to Kill is there any real reason to import the Arrow Video versions from the UK? I mean, I can look at a special features list and see the difference, but is any Arrow stuff super worthwhile?
Same question for Time Bandits. Thanks! |

Don't know if it's been discussed here, but does anything think Me & Earl & The Dying Girl has a shot at a Criterion release? Won Sundance. Basically one long Criterion Collection commercial. Currently no blu ray release plans.

Off topic, but Patrick Macnee died today.
http://variety.com/2015/tv/news/patr...ad-1201528377/ "Always keep your bowler hat on in times of trouble, and beware diabolical masterminds." On edit: Not quite as off-topic as I thought. According to the IMDb, he was an uncredited extra in two films in the Collection: The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp and Pygmalion (the latter on LD and DVD only, and OOP). I never noticed him in either one! Last edited by jayembee; 06-25-2015 at 09:06 PM. |
