Wait, is Jurassic World going to diarrhea on Avatar in terms of global box office gross?

Avatar made $2.7B, while JW is at $1.2B. I don't think it's likely, but it's still impressive.

But is that because tickets are more expensive now?

Even though I don't really care about box office numbers, I think it's better to calculate tickets sold vs. dollar total. Even if adjusting for inflation.

That's what I always said. When they talk about attendance at a ball game, they talk about seats filled. Not money made in sales of seats.
"We have 30,000 in attendance today..."
They should do that for movies over the course of it's theatrical run

Agreed. I wish that was how they measured it. But still people would talk about population inflation.

It's only a $10M difference, so it probably evens out.

Butts in seats is more definitive. Not that this would happen but say only senior citizens went to see this, with a legion of senior citizen discounts in tow? Ditto for kids who get various discounts. The numbers, invariably, are skewed slightly.
All this goes back to my saying that I don't care about box office numbers.

I finally went to see this today, and really enjoyed it. I thought it was a lot of fun and very entertaining. I can't wait to pick up on blu ray.

I hope the new guys from Universal brings us at the end of this year remastered Blu-rays of Jurassic Park and the Lost World, it would be cool in a new box set.

I actually think the Blu-Rays are fine the way they are. At least, from my perspective.

Loved the film. Already pre-ordered the 3D deluxe gift set. Listen to the soundtrack (mixed with JP and TLW:JP) all the time. Dusted off my copy of JP: Operation Genesis and added a bunch of HD mods. Just wish Universal would put out a true modern remake, not some dumb tablet fremium game.

So many amazing nods to the previous films done perfectly. When the Lost World cue hit I think I may have had a small orgasm. Thin I should go see it again to make it 3 weeks in a row. D-Box for the win!

Lost World is. JP has some DNR and edge-enhancement (thought not nearly to the extent people act like it does).

They do track that, you can find that list - I believe GWTW is still the #1 ticket seller of all time. It's just not the one popularly reported.

Avatar made the box office it did because it was a perfect storm of new technology people wanted to check out, the newly introduced 3D tax, and a terrible box office season otherwise. It stayed in theaters so long because there were a few months around it where there was no real competition.

JW won't beat it. But there is definitely a very good chance Episode VII will.

Episode VII has 0% chance of beating Avatar, $2.8B is an enormous sum.

0% chance? Kind of low.

What scene in Jurassic World was the Lost World cue? I also enjoyed the movie very much, does anyone think we will get a "jammed" packed Bluray? Making of doc, deleted scenes, commentaries, etc? I'm hoping with the unexpected PHENOMENAL success we get great special features. Also I'm wondering , due to the success of this movie a sequel will be much quicker to happen than say if it wasn't as a HUGE success as it was.
