Wonder if The Killing Joke will be just like the book or if the PC brigade will force them to make Barbara less of a victim. Like how they got the awesome cover pulled from shelves earlier this year.

After saying they are going to retell the story in an awesome new way, I'm guessing we'll get a toned down movie. Nothing like the comic but still in check with past DCAU.

Cool news. I can definitely see that prologue being cool. Definitely looking forward to this.

Awesome!
I got the graphic novel a couple of years ago and felt it was as good as the hype said it was.
I'm definitely looking forward to this!

You know, I read the book a long time ago, and I never remembered anything really graphic in terms of sexualized violence in it, but reading about the variant Batgirl cover, and re-reading some analysis of the book, I think it's pretty clear that they were going to have to tone down Barbara's fate in order to get this to PG-13 material, anyway. Even as much as the MPAA has let them get away with sexual innuendo, and especially, violence and blood (in a way they never would allow in live-action films), I think they would be hard-pressed to allow every page of The Killing Joke to go into a PG-13 DCAU film.

Of course, it would be great if they stayed true to the book, went out with "Not Rated", and put a warning on the box (and if necessary, before the film), but I doubt they'll do that.

They should just make that Joker/Batgirl comic cover the covert art for the film, and replace the DC logo in the corner with a little Joker-glove giving the middle finger.

I never thought this would happen! I just figured the source material would be too short, even for DCU. Happy nonetheless!

The Killing Joke is the only graphic novel I own. Looking forward to this. Glad Timm is doing more. Maybe they could put out a PG-13 and R versions?

I think DC will get away with a PG13 rating with putting all of what's in The Killing Joke in the adaptation. You really don't need to see the cause, all you have to do is to see the effect in Gordon's face, that's what I'm saying.

And with the Titans movie also in the horizon, I think it'll be a good year in the DCAU movie world.

I'm going to be yet another person that says Mark Hamill better voice The Joker in this. He specifically said he wanted to voice The Joker for this story, and after all these years many people still want him as the voice of The Joker. The Joker didn't start with Mark Hamill and The Joker certainly won't end with Mark Hamill, but for as long as Batman: The Animated Series has been off the air there is still a demand for him. And with no disrespect towards anyone else that has voiced The Clown Prince Of Crime, there's not nearly as much of a demand for them voicing The Joker as there is Mark Hamill.

And by no means am I a person that thinks we should only stick with one mold for Batman (The Dark Knight Returns was well done and I liked Batman in Justice League The New Frontier), but if I hear Bruce Timm is involved with one of these movies it has me a lot more excited than any news of a New 52 movie. I think the New 52 concept is actually pretty good in theory, but as far as the animated New 52 stories go they haven't done much for me at all. Justice League War could have been great, but it felt like one long action scene with no depth and bad voice acting.

Maybe not but he is the level all other Jokers wish they could reach. He is The Joker.

Ledger didn't even really play The Joker. He played some real world anarchist who called himself the Joker. He lacked most of what makes The Joker The Joker.

I want a mixture of what Ledger and Nicholson brought us, hopefully Leto can give us that.

It will be interesting to see how well they can capture Bolland's art style.

The beauty of Batman is people expanding the mythology.
Just because he didn't portray your version doesn't mean it wasn't the Joker.
There is no such thing as what makes the Joker the Joker.
There is no set of hard rules that all writers have to abide by to make him work.
