1. HALLOWEEN 3

I saw this for the first time when I was 8 or 9 and have loved it ever since. It feels like an extended episode of the twilight zone. As far as i'm concerned, the series went off track after this one and only the first three demand multiple viewings. I might even watch this again before Halloween.

I have the Universal release only because I sometimes need the subtitles which the shout factory version doesn't have. This has no special features so unless you need subtitles definitely get the shout factory version which has multiple extras.

* - 1st Time Viewing

10/1 - *Trick 'r Treat (2007)

I really liked the cast and acting throughout this movie, and the cinematography and music were top-notch as well. I liked that it was basically an anthology, but that each of the stories were interconnected. I had a lot of fun with it. It's got plenty of scary scenes, some gross-out stuff, and a lot of funny parts too.

10/1 - *I, Madman (1989)

Cool villain, nice lead actress, some interesting ideas. The occasional goofy stop-motion stuff is kind of weird. A little slow at times, a little cliche. Overall, it was a decently fun movie.

First time viewings in bold.

Oct 1st - The Thing (1982)

It took a long time to get around to seeing this for whatever reason but I was missing out, what a film! The creature effects were superb and the way the tension and paranoia rose was excellent. Ennio Morricone's score. Beautiful looking film too.

Oct 1st - Scream Queens S01E03

Dumb fun! For whatever reason this show is working for me.

This has been sitting on my shelf for a few years and finally decided to watch. Glad i blind bought this years ago a this was a fun one! Takes a bit to get going but once the transformation starts it really picks up in pace. Love the old school effects and wish they would use more "real" effects these days instead of CGI everything... parts reminded me of The Thing as well...

So pissed off. All last week it was dank and dreary weather. Now today, on the first of the month the sun is splitting the skies!! Doesn't help put me in the mood for Horror. Have to wait until it gets dark to watch another.

Ah well, I'll go see The Martian in the meantime.

Cool villain, nice lead actress, some interesting ideas. The occasional goofy stop-motion stuff is kind of weird. A little slow at times, a little cliche. Overall, it was a decently fun movie.

10/1 - *Lost After Dark (2014)

Stereotypical characters, cliche scenario, stiff acting, unconvincing effects and editing, lack of humor... It was gimmicky and failed as an homage, with so much missing the mark.

Abby's Halloween-a-thon... of HORROR!
Finally, October is here and I can participate in this madness.

October 1st:

1. Village of the Damned -
A sci-fi horror classic. The opening is very ominous and unsettling, and each time the children are on screen it's creepy. Some of the cold war/nuclear scare stuff is a bit dated, but it's downplayed enough that the movie is still relevant to new audiences. Some see it as a horror classic, some seem to overlook its existence, but everyone is in agreement that it's pretty good.

Cabin Fever -

Cabin Fever isn't necessarily a bad movie. It has some great, squirm-worthy moments and can be pretty atmospheric at times. However, where the fault lies is that unlike other "cabin" movies like The Evil Dead and The Cabin in the Woods where there are actual antagonists, this movie tries focus around a flesh-eating disease. There is only so much you can do with a disease and that's the movie's problem. Other than a few really good scenes, the movie has to focus on a bunch of ludicrous hillbillies to fill in later in the movie as antagonists.
Cabin Fever is a very good horror film! Got Em!!

I agree with all of that but I still had no problem watching it... I think I rated it as 2 skulls.... it had a few enjoyable scenes....

Great job creating the vibe of a traditional giallo, very good cinematography and music. The acting really got on my nerves though, and the whole thing started to feel too much like a gimmick at times. The plot was really confusing for me, but some of the scenes in this movie were truly great, including some that had me literally rolling on the floor laughing. I kind of thought it didn't go all in enough on the parody aspect.
