Used to be that anything that got a SAVE release real quick after its initial release meant that it flopped. I don't think that's a hard and fast rule, but it probably still applies for some of their releases. Michiko and Hatchin is a curious case for me since I heard it sold quite well initially but then sales nosedived after the first month of its release.

I see Robotics; Notes is on their SAVE line now. Didn't that originally come out not that long ago?

Here is the dumbest group of anime "fans" on FB right now.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/englishdubbedanime/

Feel free to join and shut them down. They believe that Funi is God tier and cheap and will never fail and aren't in trouble right now. I guess facts are all fake.

I'm sure every time a new DBZ release comes out, it still makes less money than the previous one. At some point the well goes dry. It's concerning because as bad as they are (probably my least favorite US anime distributor of the last 15 years in terms of quality) they hold A LOT of properties and if they go under, a lot of titles will be stuck in license hell.
thats why somebody needs to release the original dragonball on blu ray instead of dbz re-release #2,000,000

Okay, another butt-kissing post for Discotek again, but it's amazing how they sometimes go the extra mile to at least *check* for all available english audio tracks for any given title of theirs. Like with the dub tracks they found for Urusei Yatsura Beautiful Dreamer and Arcadia of my Youth, most anime distribution companies don't do that. I like that they behave more like a cult film company and take the time to hunt down audio tracks, the best masters available, etc, instead of lazily taking whatever they have on their desk and straight dumping them onto DVD/BD and calling it a day...

So in the case of 5cm, I think if they can get the ADV dub as well as the new one, they will. The only preventative factor would be rights issues. I remember for Space Adventure Cobra they actually tried to get the dub with the Yello Soundtrack to include along with the Streamline one, but ran into rights issues.

Tokyo Ghoul is a massive hit for them, especially since the anime is now very mainstream. Conventions are flooded with people cosplaying as characters from Tokyo Ghoul, the show streams extremely well for FUNi, and it's done well on-disc. It's one of the biggest hits and had one of the biggest explosions in popularity in recent memory.

The manga has also been very successful for VIZ Media.

S.A.V.E.=/=Bad sales There are titles on that line that still sell rather well.
http://www.fandompost.com/oldforums/...l=1#post219934

Date A Live's LE sold out in about a year, and yet that got on S.A.V.E. OniAi overperformed (Initial run sold out in a month, reprint completely sold out in under a year), and yet that's on S.A.V.E. If every show on S.A.V.E. didn't sell well, FUNi would have gone under years ago. And hell, there are shows on Anime Classics that didn't do that well such as Armitage III (Currently ranks in the 100,000's on Amazon). I also heard Lupin the Third: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine didn't do that well, and yet that didn't go on S.A.V.E.

^^^

So which shows were really bad for them. I recall there was something recently that they licensed and it was a bomb for them. I can't recall if it was streaming only or if they actually released it.

Hahaha, well, I didn't say that I assume that *every* SAVE show was a bomb, I just thought that they were a mix of bombs, releases of their older shows they still hold the license to, or that the original one-set releases have finally stopped selling well after an extended period of time. My theory was that the ones that went very quickly from their original release to the SAVE line (within 2 years or so) *might* be bombs. But as you noted about Date A Live, it's not a hard and fast rule obviously.

It says the Fujiko Mine series met expectations, but thought it would do better. Then mentions like OniAi met expectations, but i'm sure those expectations were not high to begin with. Michiko & Hatchin did alright, but a slow release because someone else licensed it first.

I know this is the official USA release thread, but more people have eyes here than on any other thread in this forum.

Can anyone here translate this for me, or does anyone here have any pre-ordering experience with Amazon Japan that knows what this means? I want to pre-order one bluray and buy an already released bluray at the same time, and then have them both shipped in one package. But the Chrome translator isn't all that clear and I'm unsure what I need to do. It's asking me to check a box, but by default it's unchecked and I have no clue if I should leave it that way or not.

Further in the checkout process it should give you the option to either ship everything at once (items not available may delay the shipping process) or to ship things separately (increased shipping charge)

That price guarantee just guarantees that the pre-ordered item will not go up in price for any reason and will be adjusted if the item goes down in price before it releases.

Yaaasss. It seems that both Death Parade and Prison School are, indeed, getting Limited Edition chipboard box sets. The pre-order links are live on FUNimation.com. I wonder if they added them because people complained. Hopefully Snow White with the Red Hair and Heroic Legend of Arslan P2 get them, too.

Looks like I'll be going for Ergo Proxy, Sword of the Stranger and Overlord (non-LE) from Funi's November titles. Overall, not a bad slate of titles. Very solid.
