Tilda is a fantastic actress and she was pretty much a generic authority figure. She of course makes the most of what she was given. In fact all the actors do. The cast is fantastic. Cheiwitel, again amazing actor, we are told he's rigid and that misinformation about The Ancient One is a problem to set up what he does. But I don't feel that at all because we didn't get any sort of character moments showing that.

It was more like look at my cool action figures in my pretty video game and here are the bio placards to set up the action...begin.
And why was the dark dimension a riot of color? Very pretty but no menace to be had there. Dormammu was giving me flashbacks to Malebolgia in the Spawn movie. Not really what you want in your ultimate evil.

Enjoyed the film, will buy it day one but I just wanted to feel some connection and really didn't.
lYea, agree with most of this post. Visually, it was Fantastic, but at times (
[Show spoiler]the Dark Dimension
), it was like an Overblown VOMITING of Every Color
[Show spoiler]EVER Made in the world, Over & Over & Over again (kind of like when Dr Strange KEEPS coming back to try to work out a deal, OVER & OVER & OVER Again... ---- I mean, 3-4 times would have been Plenty, we get it, now GET to it

Lol, well to be fair, the folding over of buildings Was "like" we'd seen in INCEPTION, but yes, this movie took that 100x beyond that, no? --- (see below comment, lol, which I JUST saw/read - sorry Blu' B )

and totally don't understand the "inception rip off" comments. there as one scene in Inception that I remember.....if anything, this movie took that idea and expanded on it 100x over.

and really liked the fight scene
[Show spoiler]where everything was in reverse
. really really unique idea.

either there's plenty of scenes left on the cutting room floor, or they just wanted (understandably so) a "Name" actress to play
[Show spoiler] his semi-girlfriend role,
instead of some no-name person.

2.5/5

I found it rather boring at times. Just wasn't my cup of tea.

could be. My working theory is that
[Show spoiler]we're going to see more of her in future movies. Maybe that ER becomes the "go-to" for superheroes. Similar to how The Night Nurse (Rosario Dawson) is the "go-to" healthcare provider in the Netflix sub-universe. I'm strongly suspecting that one of our heroes ends up in her hospital in a future movie.

Don't care about white-washing or anything (we never see anybody for their races here), but everytime Tilda Swinton appear I always see Michelle Yeoh playing the character. I think it's a misopportunity, she would fit as a glove.

Personally I felt Tilda did well enough in the role and don't feel Michelle Yeoh would have felt as right in the role.

I think it's just the case of people on the internet as usual jumping to conclusions before actually knowing what's going on.

And the movie is getting glowing reviews and successful at the box office. Yet you got sites like the Washington Post trying to keep the internet "controversy" going for ad revenue.

the controversy was always overblown. The Ancient One was as much a stereotypical parody as The Mandarin. Two sides of the same reductive coin. I think that Disney made a wise move in changing the character, even managing a nod in the film to the biases that created the character in the first place.

The more I think about it, this might be my favorite MCU origin story since Captain America's. Aside from
[Show spoiler]the confrontation with Dormammu, which I felt was kinda silly (Strange basically annoys him into giving up)
, pretty much everything else was perfect. Also loved how much the Cloak of Levitation was basically the Magic Carpet from Aladdin. Really fun movie, haven't been this hyped for a Marvel sequel in a while.

I was a bit disappointed that we didn't get to see more hand-to-hand (spell-to-spell?) stuff in the climax. But I did think that the way
[Show spoiler]Strange dealt with Dormammu was clever, fitting of the character, and different than anything we'd seen before. I've heard some compare it to the "dance off bro" scene in Guardians but I think, while equally unexpected, this scene was significantly less of a nonsequitur. Reminded me a bit of Edge of Tomorrow.

This movie surprised me. I loved the first half hour setup and any interactions between Strange and the Ancient One. The chase sequence and the representation of the different dimensions and spells were interestingly realized. The "reverse time" fight was really unique! Some of the jokes felt a bit out of place and Mads Mikkelsen was disappointingly underused (which I guess is to be expected from villains who aren't Loki). Solid 4/5.

My 5 favorite MCU movies:
1. Guardians of the Galaxy
2. The Avengers
3. Doctor Strange
4. Captain America: The First Avenger
5. Iron Man

My 5 favorite Marvel movies
1. Guardians of the Galaxy
2. The Avengers
3. Deadpool
4. Doctor Strange
5. X-Men Days of Future Past

My 5 favorite superhero movies:
1. Guardians of the Galaxy
2. The Avengers
3. Deadpool
4. Watchmen
5. Doctor Strange

I highly expect this list to change next year when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Wonder Woman are released. A solo Batman movie with Affleck would be a contender as well.

Probably never. These are superhero films, there should be a fun factor to them.

I just wish they would place some of the humor in better spots. Every so often they have a humorous scene right after a dramatic one that kind of takes away from it.

I hope never. There is s lot less humor in the Netflix series but even they have some humor.

The X-Men franchise is fun, yet the "joking" isnt front and center like Ant-Man and GoTG. Marvel Netflix has humor but its not front and center. Blade had jokes, yet 3 ramped it up...which moved it too far away from the previous tones.

Are you content w/ keeping the same formula for 20 films?

as long as the same formula keeps working, absolutely.

Changing it for the sake of changing it would be a mistake.
