I want the pre-order up since I need to get in on the 3D version with Amazon asap before they lock it into Prime members only. :/ Nearly two months later and Civil War's still not available for us lowly non-Prime people.

And since some people liked the new fanfare, you can watch it right here:

Cap's shield coming at you in 3D IMAX really is something, and makes me wish I saw The First Avenger there.

I gotta say, the new Great Wall trailer looked just awesome in IMAX 3D. Too bad the film seems pretty bad, mostly because of Matt Damon. It's like they took what would have been a great Chinese film, and shoehorned in an American star (and one that doesn't fit the role at all) to give it a chance at US box office.
Funny, because the director wanted Damon for the film.

Director Zhang Yimou clarified that Matt Damon is not playing a role that was originally conceived for a Chinese actor, he further criticized detractors for not being "armed with the facts" and stated that he believes his film is the opposite of what is being suggested, explaining that:

Quote:
“In many ways ‘The Great Wall’ is the opposite of what is being suggested. For the first time, a film deeply rooted in Chinese culture, with one of the largest Chinese casts ever assembled, is being made at tentpole scale for a world audience. I believe that is a trend that should be embraced by our industry.”

Well, it's not playing at my local IMAX. I called to see if it would be there next week and they said "no, Disney will only allow Cinemark to run it" !?!?
I guess I can see it in 3D XD at some point, but for now I'm just going to the regular garbage theater by my son's house later today.

Fantastic movie...loved almost everything about it. And yes, watching this in 3D was so enjoyable. Also, I guess the first credit scene
[Show spoiler]is hinting he will be in Thor: Ragnarok...or is that not the case?

If the movie does its job well, you shouldn't be lost. This is an introductory origin story. You shouldn't need any former knowledge of the character.

I didn't plan on seeing it in 3D, but wow, that was really cool. I had heard that Ant-Man's 3D was pretty good, so I guess they've improved in converting films to 3D? Anyways, I thought the film was good. At 1hr 55mins they certainly could've had some more time in there, possibly showing more of Strange as a successful doctor, more scenes with Rachel McAdams, or especially more scenes with Mads Mikkelson and his backstory. I don't mind the humor too much in Marvel films, but there were a few times in this film where it seemed like they were trying too hard. Only other time I felt like that was with Avengers 2.

Anyways, I guess Marvel will soon announce Doctor Strange for
[Show spoiler]Thor 3?

Box Office: 'Doctor Strange' Heads for Huge $80M-Plus Weekend After $32.6M Friday

Combined, Benedict Cumberbatch's supherhero movie, 'Trolls' and Mel Gibson's 'Hacksaw Ridge' are chasing away the blues at the U.S. box office. One reason? They all earned an A CinemaScore.

Quote:
Never mind that Doctor Strange features a lesser-known superhero — the Marvel Studios and Disney title grossed a huge $32.6 million Friday from 3,882 theaters at the North American box office for a projected $80 million-plus weekend, well ahead of expectations and one of the top openings of the year to date.

And at this pace, the movie will mark the biggest opening outside of Iron Man and Guardians of the Galaxy for the first installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe title, beating the first Thor, Captain America and Ant-Man. Disney is remaining cautious and suggesting a domestic debut in the $77 million-$82 million range, but others are betting on the high end.

Doctor Strange stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange, a surgeon who, after both of his hands are injured in a car accident, seeks out the help of the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton), who teaches him to use the mystical arts. It also stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Rachel McAdams. The movie boasts glowing reviews and an A CinemaScore.

The movie has already earned $132.9 million from select international markets since debuting overseas last weekend. And it's off to a rousing start in China, where it posted a first-day gross of $12 million or more on Friday.

Two things all three movies share in common (Trolls being the 3rd) — an A CinemaScore. Doctor Strange sports a 90 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, followed by 87 percent for Hacksaw Ridge and 74 percent for Trolls.

Three and a half stars...

Doctor Strange brings a supernatural focus to the Marvel Universe, thus paving the way for the Avengers: Infinity War film that is due in 2018. Benedict Cumberbatch plays Dr. Stephen Strange, a renowned neurosurgeon whose life is torn apart when a car accident leaves him with permanently damaged hands. His frantic search for a cure leads him to the Far East, where he studies mystical arts under the guidance of The Ancient One, a sorcerer played by Tilda Swinton. This movie follows the basic formula of Marvel origin stories, with a talented and arrogant lead character who learns humility while discovering superpowers, and, like the other films, it kicks off with a fiercely engaging and dramatic first half before shifting into battle sequences that are brought to the screen by way of computer effects that overwhelm the senses. That said, Doctor Strange held my interest, thanks to its strong supporting cast, which includes Rachel McAdams, Mads Mikkelsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, and Benjamin Bratt. This movie also benefits from a good-natured sense of humor, despite its unusually dark edge by Marvel standards. Finally, the Cloak of Levitation is downright awesome.
If you are already invested in the Marvel series, then this entry has my enthusiastic thumbs-up.

3.5 stars rounded to 4. Visually it was a success. Very cool and engaging and the IMAX 3D was enhancing to the film.
Other than Strange, the characters were under developed. It's more we are told things about characters and their motivations but are not really shown any of it to feel a connection to them. Tilda is a fantastic actress and she was pretty much a generic authority figure. She of course makes the most of what she was given. In fact all the actors do. The cast is fantastic. Cheiwitel, again amazing actor, we are told he's rigid and that misinformation about The Ancient One is a problem to set up what he does. But I don't feel that at all because we didn't get any sort of character moments showing that.
It was more like look at my cool action figures in my pretty video game and here are the bio placards to set up the action...begin.
And why was the dark dimension a riot of color? Very pretty but no menace to be had there.
[Show spoiler]Dormammu
was giving me flashbacks to Malebolgia in the Spawn movie. Not really what you want in your ultimate evil.
Enjoyed the film, will buy it day one but I just wanted to feel some connection and really didn't.

Saw it for the second time today. Liked it just as much as the first viewing, and maybe even a bit more. Such a well done adaptation of the comics. Can't wait to get this on blu.
