I agree with whoever said Rebecca Ferguson should play the role.

If you've seen her in Mission Impossible Rogue Nation, you'll understand why. Absolutely believable in the role of kicking mens ass.

Vikander won't be as believable.

Vikander and Ridley are both horrendous.

I think people are under the impression that Alicia's gonna be playing the sarcastic, dual-gun-wielding adventurer of the classic era. She's not. She'll be playing a Lara close to that of the 2013 reboot: young, inexperienced, struggling to survive. She doesn't need to look like a badass.

They're just like popularity contests, man ...

Oscars generally go to the best campaigners these days. Studios spend millions trying to get Academy members to vote for them.

It was me and yes she'd be perfect as Lara, such a shame she wasn't chosen.

Hayley Atwell would be great as Lara.

I really like her and she is gorgeous, but she would be wrong for the new version of Lara Croft.

‘Tomb Raider’ Reboot Adds ‘Into the Badlands’ Star Daniel Wu (EXCLUSIVE)
Film Reporter - Justin Kroll

Daniel Wu is set to join the reboot of WB/MGM/GK Films’ “Tomb Raider,” the latest adaptation of the popular video game, starring Alicia Vikander as the iconic character Lara Croft.

Warner Bros. recently announced the movie — from Norwegian director Roar Uthaug — will be released on March 16, 2018.

Wu will play Lu Ren, a ship captain who partners with Croft on a quest to find her father.

MGM joined the project in 2013, acquiring rights to the video game to develop the feature in partnership with Graham King’s GK Films. King, who obtained “Tomb Raider” in 2011 from Square Enix, will serve as producer.

Cassidy Lange is overseeing production for MGM and Niija Kuykendall is handling production for Warner Bros.

The original “Tomb Raider” video game was released in 1996 by London-based Eidos Interactive, which is now part of Square Enix. Square Enix released a reboot in 2013 with a younger, 21-year-old Croft being sent off on her first big adventure amid amped-up action and set pieces.

Paramount’s two films starring Angelina Jolie as the British archaeologist were released in 2001 and 2003, and grossed a combined $431 million worldwide.

Warner Bros. will co-produce the pic with MGM and GK Films.

Wu is the star of the martial arts series “Into the Badlands,” which returns to AMC for its second season this spring. He is repped by CAA, Leverage Management, and attorney P.J. Shapiro.

But that drives home the point of the 2013 reboot game. You wouldn't think a girl of her stature and age would overcome what she had to on the island. So, it's perfect casting, actually.

I still would've preferred Daisy Ridley, but what can ya do?

They are really pushing this plot about her searching for her father. If it's the main purpose of her journey, I'm going to be sorely disappointed in this film. If it's added flavor for the purpose of going to the island, then I can be ok with that. I hope what I said makes sense...

I still think Daisy Ridley looks too open and sweet-faced for Lara Croft; vikander, like Jolie, looks a little dangerous in her beauty. I confess I was bored blind by the Jolie films, this reboot can only be an improvement.

I agree. There's a slight edge to her attractiveness (as with Jolie), whereas Ridley is perhaps a bit too wide-eyed and welcoming. Still, the right performance can go a long way to overcoming such minor issues, but I think Vikander is a superb choice if they're using the recent games as inspiration.

Another great choice, and far better than Vikander would have been Perdita Weeks from As Above, So below. In that fact movie should have been used as her Lara Croft audition as he basically plays a character just like Lara, and she's British.

I couldn't help but think As Above, So Below would've been an amazing Tomb Raider film inspired by The Last Revelation.

I suppose having 'Starring Academy Award Winner Alicia Vikander' on the poster perhaps contributed to the reasoning behind her being cast as Lara Croft. It's an easier sell than relative unknown people like Weeks regardless of how suitable for the role they may be.

Deja vu with Jolie. She was fresh off her Oscar when she was cast as Lara, too.

Anybody out there seen any of director Roar Uthaug's previous films? I confess I've not even heard of any of them.

If nothing else, Walton Goggins should make a fun villain.
Cold Prey (Fritt Vilt) is a very solid horror/thriller. It's nothing original (and doesn't try to be) but it's done well enough that it's still very enjoyable for what it is. Like The Wave it has a really good buildup of tension and the directing is pretty solid. I own and enjoy both of them quite a bit.

In both films you can tell there were budget constraints, and I can only imagine what he'll do with a bigger budget. I'm cautiously confident that he'll do a good job with this one too.
