1080P is definitly an improvement but alot of it is screen size dependent. I only own a 32" lcd (still in school and broke) and its the Samsung A330 which is 720p, I've seen 32" sharps that are 1080P and the difference on that smal la screen is negligible. The larger you get the more important 1080p becomes and I highly reccommend it for anyone going 40+
