And that's the problem. There are people out there who thinks this movie is the cat's pajamas and clearly blinded by the hype and/or any preconceived thoughts or feelings.
I cannot fathom any of these people recommending this to us common moviegoers because their there's a blindness going on from giving what resembles an honest, unbiased opinion.
You are right in that this will not break any dire trend but will essentially be a continuation of it IMO, though I cannot speak for GOTG 2 or Logan for I have yet to see either one especially Logan, despite EVERYONE keep telling me to see it despite my fatigue of comic book movies.

And since when has a lousy movie been precluded from being a box-office hit? They're legion.
Why would it start with Snatched and King Arthur and not GotG2, or better still, FF8?

Yes, FA is my favourite Marvel film. Something along those lines for WW would be brilliant.

FF8 that came out in the middle of April? No.

You want GOTG2, fine, I've already said it's a hit. My point is still that a lot of presumed blockbusters have opened to either dismal or disappointing numbers for several weeks now and Wonder Woman is looking to reverse that.

I've been saying for months now to friends and co-workers that audiences are tired of the endless sequels and reboots and this will be the summer where it all comes to a head.

Wonder Woman is positioned to break this dire box-office trend and become a bona-fide blockbuster.

We're ready, baby!
After Prometheus, Covenant wasn't expected to be a hit, which is why Fox cut down the budget. Pirates on the other hand..... will only be saved by overseas.

Did I just read your post correctly? Prometheus was a solid hit and no major studio spends 97 million (and whatever it cost to market) to make a film it doesn't expect a return on...cutting down the budget is one thing, it happens frequently, but going into a project not expected to be a hit? The studio pulls the plug.

Prometheus was a solid hit, but audiences were not pleased with it.

And continuous comic book movies are the answer? How about some options?
Dunkirk, Baby Driver, It Comes At Night, War for The Planet of The Apes are the movies that I'm personally looking to be the MVPs and saviors of what looking to be yet another putrid season at the movies.

...which still doesn't explain why Fox would ever invest in Alien Covenant if it didn't have faith in it.

Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection didn't please the majority of fans either, but the franchise continued.

At what point did I say continuous comic book movies are "the answer"?!?

More original films, some of which you mentioned, are precisely what I think audiences are hungry for.

Then why are people loosing their minds over them? It seem to be the only genre of film that the people will show up for in large numbers, regardless of the film's actual quality and especially this one, more so out of some kind of loyalty.

Pirates 4 made $242m US and $805m outside the US. And that was on a $375m budget.

A 75%+ take by international box office was expected for Pirates 5, and with a relatively lower budget ($230m) it'll actually end up far more profitable than Pirates 4.

Just look at Fast 8 - 82% from overseas, with $222m US, and $1.001b outside the US.

This isn't being "saved" by the overseas market - it's called banking on it. These two franchises share the same strategy.

Outside of Pirates, I wouldn't call any of those you mentioned as presumed blockbusters.

These days, the Blockbuster season kicks off in March, not May.

I never understood that, I thought the film was just great .

All I can think of is people were upset that they didn't get a Xenomorph running around killing everyone in Prometheus.

I for one am glad we got something other than just that in Prometheus.
All the other Films have been nothing but those damn things running around
killing people.

I like Prometheus mainly for being something other than what the rest of the movies are.

And now with Covenant we're back to giving what the Prometheus naysayers want.

Just another Xenomorph running around killing the Crew movie.

You're using my post to go into some kind of rant in general over comic-book movies and their popularity, which my post was in no way defending or endorsing, so you've lost me there.

Now back to Wonder Woman in particular if you want to get into it; You say "regardless of the films actual quality" as if you're presuming it hasn't any and "more out of some kind of loyalty" which means...what exactly? Please feel free to elaborate and I'll gladly respond.

DC films I consider at least "good/okay" since Superman '78 (not counting Nolan's).

Superman II
Batman
Batman Returns
Constantine
V for Vendetta
Superman Returns
Watchmen
Man of Steel
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice - Ulitmate Edition

YMMV
