The Dolby Pulsar is also a reference-worthy monitor that isn't even remotely comparable to consumer market LCD-panels. So, there is that.

That bit from hometheaterhifi.com above refers
strictly to edge lit LCDs though. Most of the LCDs that are out there
are edge-lit, true enough, but some folks have FALD TVs too - one of which is considered 'reference' enough to use as a client monitor in grading suites:
