Default Multichannel Output from Sound Card?

I posted a thread about this in the Audio section, but I haven't gotten any responses, I figure this might be a better place for this thread. Has anyone tried to output multichannel analog output from your sound card? Since I'm running Linux, and I definately want a MIDI input, I'm wanting to avoid pulling the trigger on the HDAV1.3.

I figure a good stopgap until those drivers mature would be to go with the Xonar D2X. The only thing is, I'm not sure of the best way to get that analog sound into my Onkyo 705. The 3.5mm outputs on the card are extremely close together and I'm not sure if the 3.5 to RCA adapters would be able to fit that close together. (The BlueJeans 3.5mm to RCA cable looks like the structure around the plug is too big for multiple cables to plug in adjacently.

Has anyone else tried this on your BluRay PC? Any ideas?

EDIT: Found an existing relevant thread. Mods feel free to purge this thread with a vengence.
