Watched the first ep, I can see what people were saying about the 4K version looking a bit sunburnt. Seems to be a trend at the moment to go for this kind of perpetual sun up/sun down look in the HDR grade, once you adjust it's alright I suppose but it's not the looker that I'm guilty of expecting it to be. I'd better be off in a minute though so I can enter into a deep and dreamless slumber...

Do you have the ability to compare to the broadcast?

I haven't seen the UHD yet, but I wonder if the sunburnt quality (color cast) wasn't the productions intent, wut with this being a wild west show that's perpetually sunny and dusty.

Got this but I'm not interested in the tin or the inserts. If for some reason anyone is interested in just the tin feel free to PM me and we can work out a sale/trade.

Also, only had time to watch episode one but it looks lovely in Dolby Vision. Can't wait to watch the entire season.

I went to go play my Westworld UHD disc for the first time tonight. Something is just, really off about the colors. Everything is unnaturally dark and shaded. All the daytime scenes inside Sweetwater look like its dawn, or dusk. Like the brightness is really turned down or something. Anything know whats up with all of this?

What TV/player are you using?

I got this from Amazon and the tin has quite a few dents. Did other people's tin arrive with dents (is it normal on this particular tin)? I collect steelbooks but I think I only have one other tin...Band of Brothers...it's dented.

Sony 900e TV with a Sony x800 player.

My player was frozen today for the first time. It was stuck in 'on' mode idling from when I passed out watching a movie last night. It wouldn't respond to any button presses on the unit. So I unplugged it, plugged it back and and it had lost all its settings. It also took several minutes before being able to read a 4K UHD disc. said "disc is unreadable. check for scratches" or something. But its software says its updated and I had to setup the internet and Netflix again. *shrug*

Now it seems to be playing discs again. But I'm not sure if anything is screwed up or not.

Regardless, when playing Westworld everything was really dark.

Normal unfortunately. The uhd is known to be a little dark and dreary. This is where it helps to have a super bright tv to overcome that issue. Might wanna try bumping up your contrast on your TV or Blu Ray player if it bothers you to where you can't enjoy it.

Yeah I'm not a fan with how the UHD's look, especially colourwise. I've jumped back to blu-rays and rewatched those instead. Blasphemous I know, but my eyes just prefer the blu's. I watched the series 3 times, so the look of the series is burnt into my brain. The UHD's just look a little too different for my taste. And yes for those who are ask, my LG OED TV is calibrated and looks fine.

I just tried the BDs. They look fine. The 4K discs are off. Everything looks dull and muted. This is the first 4K disc I've played that has been truly disappointing.

I disagree. I compared UHD to bluray on my oled tv in Dolby Vision and the bluray looked much softer and duller ny comparison.

I have the same equipment and I don't find that Westworld looks as you describe. What is your backlight/brightness setting for HDR content?

Can't agree with the claims that this is a bad looking UHD. On the contrary, I actually love the look of this. It's not a very sharp image, but the depth is amazing.

I thought it was just me. I expected more. I have considered getting the blu-rays.

Okay, I figured out my problem. Disc 1 is bad. It usually won't read. Disc 2 & 3 play fine and colors seem normal.

So the PQ is ok on the 4k set and it was just the discs in your set? I am trying to decide if i want to pick up the 4k or blu ray set now.

The Atmos track is very interesting, especially if Front Wides are utilized. I believe it's exclusive to the UHD set.

yeah the PQ on the other discs seems fine. I only watched a a couple minutes of each though because i want to watch the series again in full. I'd def still buy the 4k UHD set as long as you get it for a decent price. Both BD and UHD sets come with a cool booklet insert which you don't see very often at all. It details the world of Westworld and it's quite nice. The UHD set has already been on sale a couple times for $37.99 so you can try to get it for around that price, or else wait and get the BD set < $25 imo. It's currently $49.99 in-stock at Target. There's no reason to pay full price for the normal BD set. The UHD set comes with BDs.

It's only 20pgs but its very cool. Here are a few samples.
