Just played the 1st 30mins, WOW. Both the PQ & SQ are both superb!

Nice to watch a release without that retched grain that they love to add on 4K ?, keeping it clean is how it should be seen IMO!.

Oh and the LFE for the bombs are rumbling the house great, love it.

Will watch this all the way through tomorrow, from the start again

ps. NO problems playing this on my OPPO 203!

Yes, those evil grain-adding elves and their rucksacks full of surplus bulk grain. They think just because they were able to buy so much grain for so little money, they have to use it all. SMH at those elves!

According to a guy on this link https://community.sony.com/t5/Blu-Ra...ut/td-p/622236 this is what is mentioned on page 22 of the player's manual in order to enable Bitstream Dolby DTS signals.

What an odd setting.. Sony has some weird descriptors for their settings.
here's the fix someone was looking for on the audio issues.

First off, I'm not a fan of war movies, but this wasn't your typical war movie. It was more drama than anything else with wartime set as the backdrop. Still, it was unique and compelling in every way.

At first I really didn't understand what was going on because I knew very little about Dunkirk and what it meant during WWII. It didn't take long to realize what was at stake and what was happening.

Nolan's approach to telling this story was quite well done. He proved you don't have to show blood, guts and atrocity to tell a drama such as this during wartime. Those are a lot of the reason most war movies aren't my thing. This was an amazing and moving film that I know I will watch again. There are moments I know I missed that I'll pick up on in another viewing.

PQ was astounding. Just beautiful throughout. Nothing needs else needs said about that.

During one portion of the dogfight, it sounded like a voice was cutting in and out. I didn't know if that was part of the movie or if there is some sort of audio issue. I'll have to replay it later for a time stamp.

Nolan deserves a nomination for best director, at the very least. It was a brilliant movie.

I've been showing it to relatives. It's that time of year, family and friends see each other and you say, "You gotta watch this!" Watched it again this evening (not in 4k) with my in-laws. I'm an unashamed pimp for this movie.

I honestly want to say this disc is demo material, but for me it’s far from it.

I have noticed during the first 50 minutes:
- lots of compression artifacts, especially sky scenes.
- and I saw several times some brightness intensity changes. I don’t know how to exactly say this, but during some of the aerial scenes I noticed, when looking at the water, parts of the image got a little bit brighter then darker, then brighter, then darker. Just for a few seconds. This happened a few times (probably because it was one single shot taken, used at different times).

I am well aware it could be my UB900 player.
This evening I will watch it again and mark the exact times, but first I want to watch the rest of the movie.

Just picked this up and I want to make sure I redeem the digital copy correctly to get 4K. I previously found a link to a spreadsheet here on the forums that listed 4K titles and how to redeem digital copies in 4K if possible, but I can't find it now. Does anyone have the link?

The reviewer gave Dunkirk 5 out of 5 for the audio, despite it only being a 5.1 soundtrack. I suppose it would have got a 6 if it was Atmos or X.

Those changes in density (manifesting as a kind of 'flicker') are quite common to 15-perf IMAX capture, it was there even in the 15/70 prints.

Spoilers ahead....

I really wanted to like this movie and for the most part I do.
Technically, wow.....what a sight regarding it's cinematography....WOW!
I loved the being right in there dog fights. The movie's music score was effective at building tension and the low end bass was abusive to anything not strapped down. I though contrary to some that the jumping around between the different story lines just fine and well done (And boy did I want Tom Hardy's character to really nail that bomber!)
Now, Nolan is one of my favorite directors and he of course will do his thing in the way he see's fit......so far so good right?
Yeah mostly except and a big except, where are the EEF'n wounds of war?
Where's the if you want to be in the same league as some of the best war movies ever made why would you not include some bloody gory realistic war wounds? That shite happened!!
Falling down some stairs and suffering a bump to the head doesn't cut it!
Not having read much of this thread trying to avoid spoilers I'd really like to know and understand Nolan's thoughts on this?
Perhaps not such a big deal I'm starting to think but still....dammit!

PS: I have never tried tagging spoilers before so I hope I got it to work
I guess I couldn't....how does one hide spoilers?

Noticed the very same artifacts. Few other users reported this too.
The flicker is indeed common with IMAX scenes.

Didn't notice any compression issues on the UHD. Will have to go back and keep an eye out, if anyone has specific time codes. (Won't be for at least another week though.)

Sound should do what it needs to do, first and foremost. Then, if you're an artist, you can explore what it can do, but never forget the first lesson. Same thing with lighting. What's the primary function? To make sure people can see what's on the stage. Everything else is your playground, but don't forget the primary function. That's the rock you stand on.

Mixed a band one time in a small theater, and the drummer was just going to CrazyTown, beating the hell out of the drums, which was forcing the issue of amplifying everyone else. There's a difference between "playing" the drums versus "beating" the drums. It's an important lesson in sound design that I think gets lost. You can engulf an audience with sound and volume, when sometimes a whisper is all you need. I have a 7.1 system, don't really feel the need to upgrade for Atmos -- I haven't heard anyone do anything really interesting with it yet. Dunkirk in IMAX was the audio event of the year for me, not because of how many channels or speakers were employed...it was HOW they were employed. Take it from one who knows...you can surround an audience with 64 speakers if you want to, or you can use no speakers at all if your performer can carry the space on his or her own. Sound design isn't about the number of speakers, or channels, or volume. It's about your space, and how the artists are using sound, and how you accomodate the two.

The same way "more movie" doesn't automatically mean "better movie," "more audio" doesn't automatically mean "better audio."
