This is not good for such a high profile release to have so many people having so many issues. I can't check my disc until Christmas Day as my wife got the 4K of Dunkirk for me as a Christmas present and I don't know which wrapped item is that film. I may be making a trip back to Best Buy, where she got it, if I see scratches and the checkout doesn't pay off.

SOUND MIX FIX FOR SONY X800

If you're having problems with the sound muting during loud explosions go to the X800's main page/setup/audio settings/-BD Audio MIX settings change to "off." It worked for me.

According to a guy on this link https://community.sony.com/t5/Blu-Ra...ut/td-p/622236 this is what is mentioned on page 22 of the player's manual in order to enable Bitstream Dolby DTS signals.

What an odd setting.. Sony has some weird descriptors for their settings.

Just watched it, pretty amazing. The color on everything, the costume work and vistas of the ocean, the fire, sun spots etc.

Also amazing execution as a movie in general. Pretty good WWII flick. Different. The score was top notch. Probably could have been a movie with no dialogue if it wanted to.

Not sure where I'd rank. Whatever. I'm sure everyone's picking it up and enjoying.

As for PG true a lot of Spielbergs movies are rated age PG but that's because they're the kind of movies that don't need much violence gore swearing etc. And you reference to Nolan being like Spielberg falls apart for Dunkirk. Saving Private Ryan was rated age 15 had plenty of violence for a war movie, Dunkirk is rated age 12a has watered down violence for a war movie.
Spielberg didn’t direct Forrest Gump.

The 4K disc that I got for Dunkirk also has similar but more prevalent and longer scratch marks. Are these scratch marks actually caused from disc stacking, or could it be due to a poor quality control? I swear there are a bunch of people here who claim that bluray discs cannot get scratched like DVDs can. Though BD aren't as easily prone to scratches as DVDs are, I've seen a lot of scratches like these on BD from factory sealed copies.

Maybe if enough ppl complain with pictures showing proof that these disc stacking are the reason for so many of these scratches, perhaps WB will stop stacking disc and include a flap holder?

Christopher Nolan made me think about the nature of relationships in Inception, and he has an IMAX camera, so he wins. =)
I don't think Christopher Nolan will ever be as critically acclaimed a director worldwide as say a Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, Alfred Hitchcock, Francis Ford Coppola, Stanley Kubrick, Ridley Scott or Martin Scorsese.

But i did thoroughly enjoy The Dark Knight, Inception and Memento which i proudly have in my film collection. Back To The Future is one of my all time favourites also blew my mind as a kid

Give it more time. Nolan still has a lot to give.

There hasn't been another director that has put out this many incredible films consecutively in such a short time span. (12 years) There are many great directors but Nolan is the best director of my adult lifetime and it's not really close.

Scorsese didn't get his first Oscar until very late in his career. It seems like just yesterday but it was 2006. Nolan doesn't have one yet but I have no doubt he'll have several by the time he retires. critic praise be damned.

I may not have the best sub but when the bass kicks in there is more than enough to shack the floor in my man cave. So far in the first 25 min the sound is great in my system. Firing from all speakers. The PQ is not bad either. But than again the TV is about 8 yrs old. Time for a new TV in here in the next few years.

During the movie I opened the door three times and looked outside for a tank with its engine running.
I was feeling very unsecured, vulnerable.

I deleted the original post of this because I made the same mistake you did. I also thought that Forrest Gump and Back to the Future were Spielberg. They're both Robert Zemeckis. Makes me feel bad when I dislike a massively world famous director for movies he didn't even make, lol! Shucks darn, that's my brain.

I'll still take the "Spielberg sucks" side of a director argument though. =)

I think it's the best looking disc I own. But I did notice that the clouds turn into 8bit video game chunks on one quick panning shot 26:17. There's probably a bunch more but I'm not looking for them. I just sit there and go, "wow!"

An alert movie reviewer here @ blu-ray.com ... Michael, wrote this line regarding audio:

"The bass extension of the music is often lower than the roar of armament or the hum of plane engines, subjecting the viewer to a continuous barrage that is presumably meant to induce a state of fear and anxiety, accentuated by the ticking of a disembodied clock."

I've just read it, now. He described exactly the same findings I experienced last night.
This has to be a great collaboration between Nolan and Zimmer on the intended emotional discomfort from the music score. It is masterfully executed because I did open the door three times to check outside what was going on, like a submarine driving under the neighborhood, ...from Argentina?

My copy is from amazon and it’s got a bit more scratches than your’s. This is what happens when they stack discs.

You might be forgetting David Fincher. I prefer his movies overall over Nolan. Again, not that I don’t like Nolan, but his films tends to underwhelm me as time goes by after the initial fanfare.

Felt the same way after watching this. Nothing I would want to re-watch any time soon.

I only noticed it faintly in the skies on a couple of occasions. It didn’t ruin the overall brilliant picture and on my OLED I didn’t see it in the blacks or night shots. The night shots were deep inky black on my panel so maybe that’s why I didn’t notice. After the first part of the film I was too engrossed to see any errors I think.
