I think if people who post on forums are industry insiders or have worked in the field in any capacity, even journalism, they should be identified as such - maybe some folks will think twice about belittling members who seem knowledgeable or won't second guess their knowledge. Why would a professional, active or retired, want to remain anonymous anyway? Aclea, instead of PMing someone your credentials, why not just tell everyone? What these forums need are more knowledgeable pros posting and correcting assumptions many people make. People appreciate this sort of thing (I know I do).

Maybe folks should think twice about belittling others, regardless of who they are or what their credentials are.

Why on earth is so much time being spent talking about Sony and Mill Creek in the Kino thread?

Sounds like Jarndyce & Jardyce in action.

(Bonus points for anyone who gets that reference.)

As Aclea pointed out, the film was huge overseas. It ran as a 70mm roadshow in the UK for 79 weeks. Nor would I categorize it as a flop even in the USA. It was reported as Paramount's 6th largest success in the US at the time; it just cost so much to make that it supposedly couldn't recoup the investment.

But we've discussed earlier how evasive Hollywood studio "profits" are. Paramount had its share of lawsuits from writers and actors about hits that "made no money."

(BTW, I paid to see it four times myself in 1969, so I would love a Blu-ray properly done.)

One of my favorite Dickens books! And it wasn't as bleak as its title.

All the films you mentioned are bigger titles than the films Paramount has restored, some of the "bigger" ones were released by Kino and Olive.

Not sure why all of you are kissing Sony's arse and regularly dump on other studios. Gravy Train and Warlords of the Deep are still with Sony. I'll take your word on the others. The WB one was my bad, got it confused with lots of early unreleased Capra and Stanwyck Sony titles. And who gives a crap about DVDR releases, this is Blu-ray.com, not DVD-R.com. Also my bad, CHEAP DETECTIVE was the one only released pan&scan.
CHEAP DETECTIVE is both widescreen and pan&scan on DVD

Correction, it WAS. The original 2-sided disc went OOP and reissued as a 1-sided disc with 4:3 only. That was not the only Sony release that happened to either.

Coming April 10th!
First Time on DVD and Blu-ray!
Brand New 4K Restoration!

The Psychopath (1966)
Starring Patrick Wymark, Margaret Johnston, John Standing, Alexander Knox and Judy Huxtable - Written by Robert Bloch (Psycho) - Directed by Freddie Francis (The Skull).

Legendary horror director and 2-time Academy Award®-winning cinematographer Freddie Francis (The Skull, Tales from the Crypt) directed this classic Amicus chiller which is filled with surprises and keeps its viewers on the edge of their seats. With a serial killer on the loose, Police Inspector Halloway (Patrick Wymark, Where Eagles Dare, Repulsion) investigates a pattern of grisly murders whose perpetrator leaves a small doll by the body of each victim. The four victims are all brutally murdered in different grotesque ways… a knife, a blow-torch, a rope and a car. The case leads Halloway to disabled doll collector Mrs. Von Sturm (Margaret Johnston, Burn, Witch, Burn) who knows a set of dark secrets that may hold the key to the shocking truth. Beautifully shot in Scope by John Wilcox (The Evil of Frankenstein) with a screenplay by Robert Bloch (Psycho) and co-starring John Standing (The Legacy), Alexander Knox (Woman of Straw) and the lovely Judy Huxtable (Scream and Scream Again).

Special Features:
• Audio Commentary by Film Historian Troy Howarth
• Reversible Blu-ray Art
• Original Theatrical Trailer
