Buy one for 15 bucks. But wait order in next 10 minutes and get two for the price of one, just pay an extra processing fee. |

Well, I just got back from my first experience with MoviePass and it really sucked the donkey D.
I activated the card inside the theater, put in my last four digits, and it said it was all successful. Then when I went to buy the ticket, it declined. The dude didn't know what was going on...I didn't know what was going on. So we tried it a few more times. Still nothing. Was going to see a regular "2D" movie at 6:45 and couldn't do it with MoviePass, so I opted to simply pay out of pocket. That's when it got hilarious (and even more soul-crushingly annoying). Once the ticket was paid for, the whole system went down and couldn't print anything whatsoever. So I sat there with my girlfriend and waited for fifteen minutes, and at that point, we just asked for another showtime. AMC was cool and apologized by way of giving us two free tickets for another viewing down the road. But all this happened because MoviePass was wack. Oh yeah, and even though it didn't give me a ticket, it started billing me for 3/11...and I have nothing to show for it. Customer support, of course, sucks worse than Uber. Have heard nothing at all from them and it's been hours. Does it get better? What is the problem here? |

Did your ticket cost more than $12.50? If so, then that’s too much for them to process as a transaction and goes into the “premium ticket” price bracket. I tried doing a regular 2D ticket for $13.30 and it declined my card. I chose the student option for $12.20 and it went through.

I am currently going back to school to get my masters and can prove that I am a student. I am not sure about the premium bracket thing. I think what they do is poll all the theaters in the area and do an average price of a ticket and load maybe a dollar more just in case. |

For instance they have never covered the AMC (even before the recent dispute) which uses recliners and charges 19.99 for a standard screening, but the cheaper adult non matinee tickets around here are around $15, and they also cover some $17 dollar tickets |

I too am trying to figure out exactly how this is working on the back end. I have a theater in my area that is more independent (Cinetopia, locations in Pacific NW and I think Kansas or something like that). And ALL shows are available in the Movie Pass app for check in which includes something called Movie Parlor (premium home theater experience), and GXL (80 foot screen), and Dolby Atmos (128 channels!). And some of those even have a 21+ over seating area which is an extra charge.
Point is some of those shows cost $20 out of pocket. But it seems like the theater must have a deal with Movie Pass because EVERY ticket I've ever bought with Movie Pass is a flat rate of $11 charged to the Movie Pass card. The Regal near me is an $11.90 ticket plus tax and I've never been denied... |

I suspect MP may have made a deal with City Cinemas here as they started covering their more expensive reclining theater in addition to standard seating theater, which they didn't when I first got the card in September. Though I know the big chains like Regal and AMC have refused deals so far. And MP has completely cut off some medium sized chains like Landmark and Cinepolis. |
