a long time ago i was told by a friend who lived in japan of their way of thinking. he told me that the japanese do not plan for the next day, nor the next year, but the next ten years. when they build roads, buildings, business plans, etc... they think about what will be there in ten years time and adjust plans accordingly to make things as fluid as possible come transition time. they believe in what we call "futureproofing" a product so that when 10 years comes, a product you have now will not be obsolete. someone once said that widescreen tvs are just a luxury item... and? the same people that 1080p would be useless as there were no sets that could handle it... and where are we now? someone said that HDMI 1.3 was pointless... no one uses it? what about now? they will always force the present time's limitations on you because that is all they know... when you plan for the present, you live in it... when tomorrow comes, they will reap more money from your upgrades... this is how americans work.

a fine example is the PS2... still strong afer all these years? why, because it had everything in box that people wanted (DVD player... remember how they said the DVD player would bring it down becuase of the price??, optical audio output, usb ports, HDD expansion-which sucked i admit)...

the xbox 360 will be obsolete in the next two years so you will see a steady stream of "fixes" and promos like the elite... the next will be the ulitmate, and then the extreme, and then the super deformed platnium edition... the list will go on...
