True, so hopefully some of the issues are not as bad as they first seem but I wonder how much of the highlights clipping can be attributed to the compression of the images for their site?

Never been so excited for a nearly 20 year old title's release.

Oh, and look at those highlights on the new blu, clouds are gone, detail outside the window too. But something tells me UHD won't have problem with this.
Yeah, hopefully the UHD puts everything back into place. This part of the doblu review is a little concerning:

"Where the disc finds itself in trouble is noise. Chroma noise, specifically. The bright greens invite buzzing and light discoloration, sapping some of the finest possible detail. There’s marginal loss, but the distraction is a greater issue. Matrix has a slightly messy look from the loosely resolved grain structure, although the print suffers no scratches, dirt, or scrapes after 20 years.

Dolby Vision adds heft to black levels. Inherent to the source is heavy crush, especially in the first act. A pass of HDR won’t fix that. Like the chroma noise, that’s still a menial flub. There’s great dimension on this disc, splashed with extreme highlights (sometimes overheated) and deep, rich shadows. Certainly, this defeats the Blu-ray edition definitively."

Looks very close to the theatrical release actually. I'm happy.

Really liking the look of the new shots.

The 2004 Master is how I’ve always known the film, and I still don’t mind the tint as the Wachowskis wanted that and I respect Director’s intent even years after original release. But the old BD was seriously outdated with its edge enhancements and sharpening, and this new one has a much wider range of colors while still having that green look to it. It looks more like film than video now. Contrast is a little too high, but I’m hoping that’s just the BD Master and in HDR we’ll see better light and shadow detail.

It will be like seeing the film for the first time again. Almost.

It is disappointing that the movie defaults to lossy audio, what gives? At least the movie doesn’t start automatically with default lossy audio like so many 2006-2008 WB titles.

I hope you, and everyone else who buys this 4K UHD release, are delighted with it.

I still can't convince myself to pay the current asking price of $32, though. I need a really good justification to pay that much. Maybe forthcoming reviews will provide it?

The justification is The Matrix in 4K.

I’m thinking (hoping) that it will drop before Tuesday. Die Hard was $24.99/$29.99 and then dropped to $19.99 ($17.96 in-store at Walmart) right before release day.

I feel like this will drop to at least $24.99 before Tuesday...I hope.

...I’ll buy it either way.

I recognize the potential for this to be a fantastic 4K UHD disc. I would like to see some concrete evidence that this potential has been realized before I spend that much.

I am more willing to blind buy at a $25 price point.

Fair enough.

Also, it's WB, it's going to be around $30 for a very long time. Especially considering how well this will likely sell compared to a lot of their other catalog titles.

Granted I haven’t bought every single 4k release, but I always see them on here or Amazon or Best Buy with $30-$50 pre-order prices, that always seem to drop to $18-$25 a couple days before the release.

Hopefully it'll hit the Amazon 3 for $50 deal like the Dark Knight UHDs did.

I actually like the color of the new BD; it's the over brightness and loss of highlights which are concerning, but surely the UHD restores those.

They may be gimping the new bluray and not bothering with balancing the bit depth/gamma to just showoff that the UHD can have its cake and eat it too (if done right). I am happy about what I am seeing color wise. The green isn't cloying like it previously was.

Well the Nolan movies did go on the Amazon 3 for $50 less than like two months after their release, making them $16 each, so

Don't *****(not that you would) when the initial run is sold out everywhere Amazon has the best price matching policy in the business.

I keep seeing these types of post then people complaining when their bestbuy or walmart etc. has no copies.....makes no sense.

I didn’t think Amazon even price matches. They do when they want to, they follow others’ prices sometimes when they want, but I don’t think it’s their policy to price match at a customer’s request or anything.

It really is very refreshing to see normal looking fleshtones again amidst what is still a green matrix.
